Sonic Forest

The Sonic Forest by Impact Soundworks is an experimental sample-based granular instrument for Kontakt, built on recordings of a physical electroacoustic instrument of the same name. The library can be used as a more traditional chromatic instrument, or a sound can be 'planted' to produce evolving granular textures.

The source sounds include both harmonic and dissonant mallet-like strikes, short, and long bows, all recorded with up to 5 round robins and 3 dynamic layers. These can be shaped using volume & pitch envelopes, a microtuning / scale tuning table, poly-arpeggiator & sequencer, and sample offset control.

The granular engine in the center of the UI does not require knowledge of granular synthesis, and instead allows users to morph and shape the textures with evocatively-named knobs such as Bloom, Blossom, Flourish, and Sun.
