....that is able to do some crossfade looping in order to prepare seamless loops for the sampler? I was trying several free wave editors but could not find that function. Any ideas?

Yamaha' s Tiny Wave Editor is perfect for this. There is a version 2.3.1 somewhere (which i liked better than the 2.1.5 version shown when you are 'googling' ... but i can't remember why Rolling Eyes )

Audacity: sorry, but you can't edit loops with this prog, it does not even recognize loops.
yamaha: already quite nice, here you can create crackle-free loops, but no crossfading either.

Any other ideas? Shocked
