ive got a question.

i know this doesnt support Stereo files and i know that you cant "monitor" a channel using effects, so heres my question:

how would you record a Mono vocal session?

i use Sound Forge and im not sure of a setting to change so that when you record, its only Mono.

if anyones used this and can help, it would be appreciated!

I don't own soundforge, so maybe someone will chime in quickly.....but why not record your track, then convert it to mono?

not a dumb question
www.dbpoweramp.com I believe still has an option, to convert the wav to.... either mp3 or wma and others....you would just select to wav or to mp3 (can't remember if antares sees mp3s) to mono
this is a free one, and off the top of my head, it still converts to pretty much anything................but I am certain others will reply with their apps they use.........maybe even soundforge will bounce a track to mono, again I don't remember since I haven't used the soundforge demo in a really long time

and you'll have to set dbpoweramp's setting up, or else you'll just get another converted stereo wave Laughing

Well, converting a stereo sample (interleaved or not) to mono is really a basic function you'll find in any 2 tracks editor... Don't know in SoundForge since I'm using Peak but basically, u select the "Stereo to Mono" command, you get a dialog box with some options and you're done.

You can anyway record directly in mono... In Peak, this is simply in the record dialog box... Press the "red button" and select mono. Perhaps in SF you have to create a new mono document (File -> New -> Mono document ??) then start recording... (?)

These simple features must be documented in you manual.

There are (at least) two ways to change a stereo file to mono (in SF)...

Open original file (stereo)
Click "file"/"save as" (on menu bar)
"Save as type" = Wave [Microsoft] [*.wav]
"Template" = 44,100Hz, 16 Bit, Mono, PCM
Change "File name" to something else, if you want to avoid overwriting your original (stereo) file.

Also, you can:
Open original file (stereo)
Click "Process"/"Channel converter" (on menu bar)
Output channels = "Mono"
Click "OK"
save

Should do the trick.

As for recording in mono (from the outset), you can:
Click "record" button
Click "New" button
Channels = "Mono"
Click "OK"

Cool?

Soundforge: Process: Channel Converter... : Stereo to Mono - Use both channels (50%) = Bob's your uncle.

[Edit - Rats!...Brittnell beat me to it]
