Hi,
My Emulator IV has an awesome doppler FX. Now I am looking for a VST version. Ultrafunk does have one...but is closed Waves has one...but is quit expensive..worth the money? Steinberg has one GRM2...but how good is it? are there more options and which one is worth buying? Thanx, Rob

Hello Rob

Hi Rob,
Ultrafunk is the one that floats my boat. Waves is just too expensive and I can't get on with the UI of GRM2.

I did get this reply of Ultrafunk. So maybe they are available again soon. Otherwise I need to get hold of a second hand license. Rob ''''''''''reply ultrafunk''''''''''''v Hi Rob, The plug-ins are no longer available for sale I'm afraid until the company that will continue all future development and sales makes them available for purchase again in the not so distant future. Sure, if it is good it is worth the money. Do doubt about it. But I always look to other alternatives which made me buy other stuff than Waves in the past like: - CurveEQ (best native EQ IMO) - PSP Vintage Warmer (not warm but hot) - Ambience (best native reverb) - SupaPhaser (really cool!) Sometimes you can even find equal and even better quality than waves plug-ins. Of course always a personal taste...but as far the plug-ins mentioned above... I love them Rob

Hi Rob,
I am not sure if it's the specific Doppler effect of sound panning you're after or the surround capabilities (I too love the Ultrafunk one) but if it's the latter you might wish to take a look at SpinAudio's 3DPanner Motion Effects (http://spinaudio.com/products_3dpme.html) and the companion 3D Panner Studio (http://spinaudio.com/products_3dps.html). Cheers

Hi Gargoyle, Thanx for the tip. Downloading the SpinAudio 3DPanner right now. Maybe it is also capable of doing Doppler effects. A matter of trying. The demo-files sounded very cool, altough not really doppler alike. Cheers, Rob

what parameters would you like? speed, initial/final distance, ambient temperature.. :p

Rob,
I have AI Doppler which I like very much. It used to be a free VST fx. I cannot find it with Google so I suppose it is not accessible anymore. I can e-mail it to you if you want. Cheers PA

I privately sent the same thing to him about 30 minutes ago. Guess I should've mentioned it in the thread. In case it helps someone hunt down the original author, I think it is actually AL Doppler though, since his first name was Albert... I could be wrong though. Hard to tell the difference between a lower-case "l" and an upper-case "I" in a lot of cases. It did get me playing with the plug again though... Not too shabby. Sounds pretty nice in "circle" mode, combined with a bit of ambience. Adds an interesting presence to the sound. Cheers, [/b] Ps. I hope the original author doesn't mind (since he's since disappeared, and this was originally free to boot), but I've posted the file on my server: AlDoppler

Rob: I 'kinda' know from physics, what a Doppler effect is, but can't recall anything except the classical Leslie which makes the Doppler. ( Anyone has an mp3 which shows a sound "dopplered"? If it's that what I think, may not be that difficult to create... ik.

when i think of dopplers i always think of the anakin skywalker hoverjet race in the phantom menace. the jets sound like theyve been put through a doppler.
i have both the waves and the grm. the waves one is unbeatable. but then, i only have the two

I just came on topic and thought that if you don't exclusively need a real-time Doppler effect, i know that Soundmaker (a bit out of date but...) from Micromat has something quite correct as a doppler effect
Hope this maybe can help...

The waves one is very very good IMO, but the price very bad hehe.

Hi Prophet, Listen to the doppler effect on my E-mu demo-song (1999) http://www.robpapen.com/ramp3/emueosrp1b.mp3 It is in the first part (just before the beat starts). The processing time is quit long in the Emulator and with all these fast computers flying arround it would be nice to have it as VST effect. The waves one is better than the GR2. Hmmm. That is good to know. Thanx, Rob

Listen to the MP3 demo of my E-mu soundset. http://www.robpapen.com/ramp3/emueosrp1b.mp3 The doppler effect is used in the first part of the demo-song (just before the beat starts). It is great for effect sounds and even grooves. Cheers, Rob

Thanx PA, This one is indeed new to me. Just saw that Brittnel did send it. Gonna try it out of course and will report. Rob

Thanx allot! I am going to test it next week. Rob

Aha...also a new one to me. Do you have a link for me? Thanx, Rob
| Krakatau | Posted: 28th June 2003 17:05 | |||
Of course !
http://www.micromat.com/soundmaker/soundmaker_introduction.html Let just say that it is designed to recreate the common natural phenomenom (correct translation i hope !) you'' ll by listening the speeding cars ,close from a steet (as main parameters : speed of source, direction, distance and position of the listener from the travelling line...) Anectotically, i tried sometimes to integrate into compositions some of these doppler effects by choosing speeds that results in chromatic intervals between the "incoming and "outgoing" extremes of the resulting audiofiles

when i first saw this thread i thought i would come in to mention AL Doppler which was one of my faveourite effects ever, i lost it ages ago after a format... i searched for it on the web so i could post a link but i couldnt find it...
| brittnell | Posted: 29th June 2003 09:36 | |||
Cool, glad to help.
Thanks to Rob for reminding me about it as well... If it weren't for this thread, it probably would've sat in that archive CD 'til the end of time. Wonder what other "forgotten gems" are on there... Everytime I reinstall my OS or put in a new drive, I'm sure some plugs go AWOL in archive land. Cheers, [/b]

I have the ultrafunk doppler,
I have tried the waves, and I like the waves one much better. but for the price I bought the ultrafunk one instead. the bad things is that neither one syncs to the host:( dw

By the way there is an all time hit of mine here
http://perso.wanadoo.fr/pa.music/PA.music/04_03_PA_Rhythm_rhythm.mp3 with AL Doppler coming in several times after 1' and at the end (whenever the songs sounds like it's been ambarked on a flying saucer taking off). Cheers PA

I just thought...
Can someone clearly answer me : -Is it a major difference, in practice, between a "Doppler" and a "Leslie simulator* ? ( To PA : thought it's not my preference in style, quite interesting piece of work !!)

doppler effect is the natural phenomenon of a pitch increasing as an object moves closer to you.
an example would be a train going past. an doppler effect would try and simulate this. pretty cool actually dw
| Rob Papen | Posted: 29th June 2003 23:01 | |||
Basicly it is the same audio effect. Only the lesley is short range and keeps on repeating the effect. Rob
| Rob Papen | Posted: 30th June 2003 00:57 | |||
Hi Brittnell, Just did test this plug-in "AIdoppler". And it is pritty good if you do set the parameters right. It only is not so extreme as the E-mu. (source speed) But still very usefull effect! Indeed a gem! Cheers, Rob
| Rob Papen | Posted: 30th June 2003 02:35 | |||
Thanx, unlucky it is only for Mac. Cheers, Rob

Cool piece of music! Rob
| Rob Papen | Posted: 30th June 2003 02:41 | |||
Hi Gargoyle, Yes indeed, nice stuff. Only not extreme enough. The demo works only very short The E-mu really goes wild and the ALdoppler comes most close right now. Time to demo the waves version now. Rob

Rob and Krakatau,
Thanks for your comment on my song. Rob, by the way congrats for the Future Music platinum award for Albino in the July issue ! Cheers PA |
