AuthorTopic: I asked once and...(video VST)

Ask again. Razz

I thing it would be sooooo cool if someone codes a VST that plays .avi or .mov video on it's GUI, I would love to have this to use it on Fruity and/or Tracktion which doesn't have video support. Surely most users will find it useful.

BTW: Cheers to everyone, and cheers to Scuzzphut for it's first place last month, well deserved. I was offline for about three weeks, it was horrible Crying or Very sad Im glad to be back with my fellow KvR'ians, in my element.

doesn't VJ software like ArKaos do something like that? It's midi controllable, so you could just use a virtual midi patcher to control it via your sequencer. Problem solved.

No I don't want it to trigger videos as a VJ, I want it to compose over the image.

There was a thread on the FL forum which indicated that IL are working on such a plugin for FL.

Surely a VST version would be more useful. I compose for film and need exactly such a plug for tracktion.

But even if it's a FruityLoops-only plugin, can't you just get it to work in Tracktion by loading up the FL VSTi, then loading this video plugin in Fruity?

Hey Mirabebe, thanks for pointing me to that thread!

Very cool!!

If I wanted to buy FL... But I'm not too fond of the sequencer.
doesn't FL take up a whole screen as a plugin? or is that just the demo?
-SPYRO-

I think you can resize the main window but that leaves you with very little room to work properly because the toolboxes will be moved to fit the screen available and AFAIK you'll not be able to drag any window outside the main FL screen.

Our VideoPlayer plugin will be released as FL/VSTi/DXi client so you can plug it in whatever you want.

Please don't expect anything special :

The aim was (and still is) a simple video player that plays back most popular formats (*.avi, *.mpg, *.wmf, ... but NO .mov because of all the shit with QuickTime) and allows you to score music.

It'll have basic syncing features to keep the video & audio synchronised although it's impossible to perfectly sync a video that hardly has any timeframes and where the compression uses 90% of the CPU.

btw. We still need a name for it. So far we had the following suggestions :

o Score VSTi/DXi
o VSTideo/DXideo
o VideoVSTastic
o VideoEasy
o VideoSync
o VST-VideoPlayer
o VideoMate
o VideoVulture
o VisiVST
o Video Rush
o FLCinema
o FLMotion
o FL VCR
o MovingSound
o VideoScore
o TakeOneVST
o V-Producer
o VSync
o VisiSync

... but if you can come up with something better ...

See ya,

jmc (FL Studio)

I vote for FLCinema...catchy, discriptive, to the point.

Help
Hmmm... it's not much good if it won't sync beats to exact frames... Can there be some way to 'render' the video to sample-frame syncronous format (at least to a temp folder). I'd be willing to wait for it to render and deal with space issues to make sure that it syncs. You really can't do any professional film/tv editing if there is no sync. I'm tiered of all these 'video editing software' titles where if you move three clips around all of the sudden you are looking at a bad kung-fu dub.

BTW any chance of you releasing wavetravler as a seperate app/VSTi?
jeanmariecannie

It *will* sync everything that's possible to sync to.

Just don't expect it to do more than a PC is capable off : If you CPU needs 20 seconds to calculate & jump to frame X there are no 'miracle tricks' to speed up this process (unless you render the entire video to RAM but that's impossible with most video's).

If you want a perfect sync just render your video to something that has full time frames and a codec that uses little or no CPU.

About the WaveTraveller : Using FL Studio VSTi you can use the WaveTraveller in any VSTi/DXi host.

Alright then. I usually use .avi in Protools. Will that sync just as well with your vst?
About Wave travler. In order to use the WT I'll have to buy FL?

That's the idea but please make sure it works the way you want by trying out the demo first.

In your video player can you include a parameter for start offset (with display option for offset time and actual time)? I like to score seperate scenes in seperate projects. Most film editors like to have the option of having the begining of one scene correspond to the begining of one audio project.

EyeCatch

Can you give some examples of such formats?

Not really. You'll have to play with the codecs on your machine. It depends a little on your system :

If you have a machine that has hardware accelleration for a certain codec (I have a Pinacle thing that accellerates my DV videos) use that one.

If you don't have any special hardware just render to a smaller version of the video and select noncompressed (should be higher on the [HD] bandwidth but lower on the CPU).

Not really.

The Video player will play back (& try to sync to) a video you provide but while you bring it up :

This is what the new OpenGL Lightshow will look like (if we ever find the time to finish it).

Everything is automatable and syncs to your beat. Just hook it up to a decent plasma screen or projector and light up your party.

The problem is that the freelancer (Jan Horn) who started this project died almost two years ago :

http://www.sulaco.co.za (see the second last message)

... and the guy that took it over from him wont have time to work on it until the beginning of next year.

Anyway. You see no IL resources are wasted on side projects/plugins like this. All this kind of stuff is outsourced.
