AuthorTopic: Looking for a pitch shifter

Greetings, all

First, a disclaimer -
This is my first such post on any web forum - I am 'a mug'. I am not a computer geek, and know just enough about which keys to hit to make mine work - much of the stuff on this site is pretty much Greek to me.

I am after a pitch shifter - something to help me record vocals where the parts are a little too high or low for my comfortable singing range. I am running Cubasis VST on a pentium 4 1.4gig system using Windows 98.

I am not after anything too flash or complex. It doesn't need to have too many bells and whistles, but it does need to be reliable, compatible with what I have, and simple enough for a mug such as myself to make sense of it without having to bother you all with ongoing requests for help.

Any guidance you can offer would be much appreciated.

Many thanks,

M

Its not exactly Antares AutoTune, but Bram and TobyBear's MadShifta is a cool (and free Smile ) and it has midi control over the pitch, which might be useful in your situation.

using an ordinary pitchshifter on your voice will make you sound either like a chipmunk or a demon. you need a pitchshifter that can shift pitch independantly from formants. steinbergs voice machine is great for this. there are others too, look around and you'll find them. there's no free one that i know of yet though.

Audiomidi.com has a sale on Akai's pitch right going on now:
http://www.audiomidi.com/common/cfm/product.cfm?Product_ID=2822

$87 bucks ain't bad for a solid vocal pitch shifter

In addition, RBC Audio's Voice Tweaker i've heard is pretty good, and at $59 - 119 depending on the version, the price beats Antares hands down.

My thanks to you all - lots of help.

Just a quick response to IP. I did search the site for a pitch shifter, but nothing I came up with instilled much confidence. I am so new to downloads I wouldn't know which way to jump anyway. There's no beating going to the people who are actually using this stuff to get the best advice.

Wonderful things, forums...
