Posted: 21st September 2003 09:11
Hi,

I've put up a beta version of LOFI...
See this post

I've only tested it in Cubase SX so i don't know how solid it works in other hosts...

For now there are no presets.. but I've added an randomize button to keep you busy Wink

Beware that there may be large volume diferences when using the randomize button.

Please let me know if it works ok.

only had a five min go
but sounds nice in the distortin and manglin business
but to make it the perfect beats fx is there any chance you could add some sort of beat rearrange functions ala supatrigger?

not sure if its possible as i have no idea how to do this myself so thanks anyway but is just an idea Very Happy

Maybe in future releases... not for now. It will be a whole lot of work to implement that.

What a great plugin.

A suggestion for the resampler. The higher percent settings don't make a lot of sense to me. My suggestion is to either up the limit the resampling frequency a bit or introduce a logarythmic curve for the slider control.

What a wonderful little gem this plugin has turned out to be.

Thanks a bunch.

A post shaper filter would be nice, but I've got filters for that that too. I ask for this because the Dry/Wet control has become my friend. Adding a bit of distortion to single instruments or whatever is great indeed.

What a wonderful little gem this plugin has turned out to be.

Thanks a bunch.

Yeah, the '%' values need to be ajusted to what they really are...
I will do that before the final release...

Thanks for the testing... glad it all works ok Very Happy

Works great in energyXT, FL Studio and Tracktion!

Mmmm... LOFI...

This is fantastic, e-phonic! Are you going to recode all your plugins?

Working great in FL Studio and Cubase SX ... and what an AWESOME little plug it is! I, too, think that it's best suited for mangling individual drum hits. If there was a lowpass after the shaper and some simple 2 band eq it would be the be all end all tool for shaping electronic drum samples on the fly, especially with the low cpu-consumption.

Thanks a lot for this great plugin, can't wait for the final version!

I will add variable routing options to the final release... So you can place the filter as last in the chain.

i prefer the distortion in the first (alpha?) version you did a while ago. going to hang on to that one if you don't mind

The exact same distortion is included in this version too.
Select shaper 4 and you got it!

Embarassed so it is ... Embarassed

super stuff. i love randomizer buttons
pough

I was "randoming" through some settings and I noticed that every once in a while a random setting would pump the CPU up to near 100%. I saved one of those settings and clicked random again to get the CPU down to normal. When I reloaded it, it did the CPU pinning thing again. I wonder if it's just my setup...

Hmm.. I cannot reproduce the problem you have there pough.
I'm on a p4 so I can check for denormal peaks... None of them.

What host and samplerate are you using? And does it happen in other hosts too?

It's not extreme enough. You need to make it more extreme.

It seems to be. No more CPU jumping up into the red! Smile

Now if I can just find a way to remake that patch I had for the old, SE version...

Oh thanks!

Well now that I've messed around some more with the LOFI betaplug, here's my few comments:

1. I like it
2. Have you been planning that the signal chain could be altered??
downscaler > crusher > filter > shaper is the normal way of doing it thou..
3. two states: A & B and move smoothly between two states (ex with a expression pedal or a pitchwheel while playing)
4. more states A B C D... I think GRM tools have this kinda thing if I remember right.

And one more audio example:

Ok thanks for checking.

The new version uses the exact same code as the modules i coded for synth edit.
Differences are:
Filter is now resonant and only one mode (i.e LP or HP) in the old one you could have non-resonant LP and HP at the same time.
Shaper has more then 1 shape... the old one uses what is shape 4 in the current version.
And the crusher is added..
So you can come very close to the old version actually.

2. Yes, i have planned this..
3. What exactly do you mean by states?

try shaper 4 and a stereo spreader after LOFI
e-phonic
Posted: 23rd September 2003 00:51
Ahhh, that could be it.
I removed the stereo spreader!
That isn't really LOFI Cool

Maybe i'll release that as a seperate plugin.

PJ
pough
Posted: 23rd September 2003 08:17
I think you're (both) right. I think it's the highpass/lowpass and stereo spreader that are making the difference. The old one had a certain clarity to it that's missing. I don't mean a lack of LOFIness. The new one seems muddier somehow. It still sounds way cool, just not AS way cool.

[a few minutes later...]

Okay, I take back what I said about it not sounding as good. I just A-B'd them and although new LOFI can't sound exactly the same as old LOFI, I think it actually sounds better. Rolling Eyes Silly me.

But if you're taking requests, I'd like to see the return of the stereo spreader, independent lowpass and highpass controls and maybe an LFO or two! Smile

I've uploaded an updated version...

- Fixes bug when closing host application when panel is open.
- Better randomizer.
- Randomizer doesn't set cutoff to zero anymore.
- 10 new presets.

Anyone found any other bugs?
If not, I'll release a 1.0 version soon.
