i'm gonna get flamed for this, i know, but i still don't think dsp programming is up to the quality where you can't tell the original analog filter/tape delay/spring reverb (delete as applicable), from the poor dsp imitation. 10 years down the line, maybe, but right now, if you want the sound of a CEM/Curtis/SSM/Moog (delete as applicable again) filter then buy a used synth that has one!

i myself like to rely upon a blend of hardware and software. i havent found anything in software which comes anywhere near close to the sound of my Mooger Fooger LPF, or my Roland Space Echo.

as such i know that if a "curtis filter" vst plugin came out, i would try it, but am sure it would end up with 93% of the other plugins i try - in the recycle bin never to be touched again.

my challenge is this: produce an effect which sounds BETTER than the original piece of equipment it is based on, or give up on trying to copy old technology and concentrate on creating NEW effects only possible within the digital domain. some plugin developers are to be congratulated for taking up the latter path e.g. the smart electronix crew, toby bear, tiny god, shiny fx etc.

sorry for the rant, it's friday night and i have partaken of one too many whiskeys!

nuff sed,

gregg.

not to question you, but have you done a blind test, software vs hardware? it might be easy to fool oneself that the MoogerFooger filter sounds so much better than the software one, i KNOW i would fool myself like that if i had a shiny analog box to tweak. question is, could you tell the difference in a mix?

There already is a Curtis VSTi:

http://www.winecountrysequential.com/softsynth.html

It was done by John Bowen & Dave (not Dave Smith, the one from Wine Country) of Sequential Circuits & it's pretty damn close. I haven't tried the Prophet yet but the Pro One is good enough that I rarely turn on my real Pro One anymore.

Furthermore, on JRR Shop you can find comparison files between the Mutator and the Creamware Interpole:

https://www.jrrshop.com/product_info.php?products_id=591

I still like my Mooger Fooger quite a bit, too.

as i am selling my Creamware Luna II, i cant use the pro one anymore. would be great if it were a VSTi. but well well.. one cant have it all.
