So i use audiomulch live to maipulate my music through ungodly DSP & vst chains. I think it'd be really cool to be able to manipulate my 50 gig mp3 library on the spot in the live setting instead of having to convert them into weighty wav files beforehand. Anybody heard of a vst or vsti plug that'll let you play mp3 files?

Askywhale MP3Play.
However, the plugin doesn't stream the MP3 from disk. What it does is open the MP3 and decodes it as a WAV into memory. So unless you're running a ton of memory, having more than one instance of MP3Play open can be difficult. I heard that Askywhale was working on an updated version that did disk streaming and playlists, but haven't seen any updates in a long time. -K

you can give this a try:
http://www.irdbisa.com/gunshopsoft/ < vst software > \Xtal - lightweight VSTi dJ mp3 player, encompasses much of the functionality of NI Traktor its a free plug-in a friend of mine made. its still being developed but it's stable enough for him to run it through Chainer on his laptop and Dj at the clubs just drop him a line if you download/like it -k-

After grabbing a VST-DJ mp3 player, check out www.atomic-afro.com/software.html, and download the ATX-626 advanced VST-DJ mixer. It features 3 channel mixing, EQ cut/kills, punch in/out, BPM counter, crossfader curve (for you hip-hop/scratch DJs), sampler, and much more!
Did I mention it was FREE! will work with the forthcoming Evolution X-Session! ATA PS, I like the look of Xtal, a step in the right direction. Perhaps if Traktor or one of the other big name PC-DJ programs offered VST or Rewire connectivity, this VST-DJ thing would really start to blow up!

It ain't VST but...
Have any of you heard of Final Scratch?!
| atomic_afro | Posted: 9th December 2003 05:31 | |
You can't patch final scratch in a modular way like VST-DJ plugs, and to expect someone to buy two PCs to DJ with is just plain silly.... Thus the need remains for more VST-DJ plug-ins, or at the very least rewire support for existing DJ programs.

Steinberg had a jukebox program called MyMP3 Pro that supported VST effects. I think it's Pinnacle MyMP3 or something now. Does that help?

You only need one PC for Final Scratch! But yes, I except it's not what is being looked for in this thread!
| atomic_afro | Posted: 9th December 2003 06:35 | |
Please note that what I meant was two PCs to DJ with, one for final scratch (which uses Linux), and another to run windows with a modular VST environment for effects and mixing. Obviously, you can use a hardware mixer with final scratch, but you give up the wide range of unique effects which you can only get from VST. After all, with effects from Ohm Force, Smart Electronix, NI, along with the capacity for 5.1 mixing (try doing that with hardware!), VST-DJing is the future!

Yeah, xTal is a fantastic idea but I'm afraid I'm having problems with stability on my setup But I'm not gonna complain. I'm sure the author is still actively developing it. I shall watch with interest. . .

I saw the guy has updated Xtal to 0.004. I had some bad glitches with my midicontroller when pitching the mp3's, but they seem to be gone.. Great tool!
One of the main problems I have now though is that the mp3's all load not in their original tempo. Even when I turn off autodetect BPM..

I had also stability probs.
Give it some time to evolve ...

I will.. I was just posting to let people who like Xtal too know there was a improved version. |
