Hey group--Newbie here...

I can't post reviews yet, but thought the group would want to hear from someone about Antares' Filter plug-in.

I've used it in SONAR 2.2 XL as a DX plug-in since it came out. It's hard not to use it all the time because it's really cool to sync the filters to frequencies--or even other filters.

The interface is pretty cool, but the ease of use is very nice. The sound is clean, meaning, not a lot of artifacts at 24 bit 96k. It also doesn't seem to use a lot of CPU juice either.

So far I've only used it on synth effects and guitars, so I can't comment on any other application, but I would say this is a good plug-in for your arsenal if you want some cool effects that blend with you tune easily, and effect filters that sync with your tempos too.

IMHO--

I use mine frequently. Tonight it was on strummed guitar, while the other day it was on hihats.

It's hard to pin down exactly what I like, and I don't usually care for feature-by-feature pissing contests, as it's what you do with it that counts.

But AF, to me, is very musical to use.

Other filters I've tried just seem to mess up the sound. This is probably my fault, of course, but all the same ...

So AF gets my vote after 6 months of owning it and still using it.

Does it use Pace protection? Most people will not buy it for that reason alone. I like it but I won't buy it for that reason.

What I don't like about Antares Filter is the license agreement stating that you may only use Filter on one computer, having a PowerBook and a Desktop computer that rules it out for me Sad

Most other software companies allows 2 installation at least. Exclamation

for fucks sake- buy the product legitimately, and then get a crack to use it on your second computer as well. Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

.... I just don't understand why people let silly things like "license agreements" get in the way of making music Mad

It's a great product, and if you pay for it, you should be entitled to use it on however many computers you want

my 2cents.

I understand these companies want to protect their products but there's better ways to do that. They treat everyone, including their customers, as potential software pirates and it's starting to piss me off. You pay big bucks for their product and what do you get in return.. fuck all !!!!

customer care seems to be interpreted as "if you're lucky we will reply to your emails"

bloody pretentious, that's what they are.. they all behave as if they're selling cold fucking fusion, you need to fill in 20 forms, send 50 emails, go on your knees and beg just to be able to use YOUR software.. I PAYED FOR MY SOFTWARE SO LET ME FUCKING USE IT AS WELL !!!! Mad Mad Mad

Well, since ttoz isn't awake to set you straight on the PACE issue yet, I'll just have to do it for him:

PACE is a very good thing. It puts a halt to piracy, makes developers extra money and works flawlessly. What you need to know is that ttoz has had no problems with it; therefore, you are a complete fuckstick for complaining.

Smile

I think now I am going to go hide out in the snowy wastes of Canada...

i have been looking at a fancy filterometer for awhile now. i dled the demo of the antres filter and it tried to install all types of PACE crap on my comp just for a demo! so i cancelled the intallation.making me undicided. however the quadfrohmage is very nice as is the PSP nitro. i thnk im leaning towards the nitro the quadfrohmage seems to be a bit much for my tastes.
