AuthorTopic: generating feedback noise?

are there any Noize heads in here? I'm looking for some tips or techinques on how to generate live noise.
The best results I've got were with my mixer plugged into itself (inputs to outputs) and simply recording from the headphone jack. I have an Alesis AirFX unit, which is pretty useless, but It's great for this! It has filters and bitcrushers that are very suitable for the sounds I want.

i once put my whole studio into a mad feedback path, sounded wicked!

pc soundcard out to mixer, mixer channels to korg ms-20, ms-20 to moog filter, moog filter to soundcard in, with the pc running audiomulch software with loads of vst effects, and again around the loop...

recorded it all onto the hard drive. by tweaking different components in the chain i was able to get about 30 minutes of constantly evolving tone, which would occasionally descend into outright noise, but for the most part stayed controllable.

i made a track with this, adding some other bits on top. you can download it here:

old favourite...
Instead of using aux return bring an
fx unit back into 2 desk channels then send them back to their own aux .Have fun twiddling pans aux sends etc.Even more fun if done with a boss delay pedal or similar which has a 1 sec sample function .Grab loop then tweak delay time aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand feedback for complete madness.

Delays capable of infinite feedback are great for this. Get something in the loop then mess with the delay time (if software/digital it needs to be capable of analog style interpolation... e.g., smartelectronix' analogdelay plug).

Saying that, when I want noise I tend to bypass all the feedback techniques. I just loop some white noise and mulch it to fuck. Works well for me Laughing
