does anyone know of a good self oscillating filter effect with midi note keytracking ? (ie, midi and audio in; filtered audio out).

Ohmygod is pretty decent and comes free with every issue of Computer Music magazine in the UK.

It's a MIDI controlled Comb filter, and according to the manual...

"...Over 80% the Filter enters in self-oscillations, meaning it doesn't need any inputs to produce sounds."

I still hope they would add that little feature to Frohmage, which can be set to be tuned by notescale anyway...

Try DFX Rezsynth...

"Rez Synth allows you to "play" bandpass resonant filter banks that process your sound. In the right hosts, MIDI notes can trigger individual filters or banks of filters (up to 30 per note) with controllable frequency separation."

And another idea Idea Doh! :

If you have a VA synth with sidechain input and filter keytracking, then use that one. Pro53, ES-1 and Minimoog V come to mind...

Quad Frohmage does this. Actually Quad Frohmage allow you to control any parameter via notes and or velocity, to trigger ADSR via your keyboard (in addition to in depth signal analysis) and soooo much more. Quad Frohmage also features grossly twenty sweet sounding and controllable self osciallating filters.

So not only can you generate a signal and play it via your keyboard, but you can plug a bass drum in filter one, mute band one, use the enveloppe follower as filter two gain enveloppe to follow, then set filter two to band pass SV filter, with cutoff driven via your keyboard... and you'll end up with a self variating generator shaped by a bass drum Razz

Sure Quadfrohmage is very powerful Very Happy , especially concerning modulation and routing options!

But still for many tasks I prefer Frohmage, just because it is so simple Razz , and especially because there is this quickly accessible button above the cutoff knob to switch between "frequency" and "notes" (without the need to set up a modulation).

I think this little bastard literally screams for a MIDI notes to cutoff modulation!! Cool Shit!

Ok, you have a point here. Thus I have to check but AFAIR Frohmage is NOT self variating, is it Razz ?

Sure thus I end up using the Frohmage elder brother very ofter. QF is for Filter Freaks, but I am a distorsion freak. Frohmage + Predatohm = my sound.

BTW updates to come :

Quad Frohmage Stereo : very soon now
Predatohm Stereo : soon
