AuthorTopic: Guitar Delay Suggestion?

Hey,
I had the luck not so long back to come across an old EH16 delay box - what can i say this thing is something special! It has this 'sound on sound' feature which lets you multitrack - this was great for me cuz i'd do a load of contrapunctal lines from my guitar and get them all looping over one another. You can then reverse them too which adds to the effect! One of the other things that struck me about the box was that it has a REALLY distinctive sound - i found that it manages to smooth sounds out until all that is left is a continous drone! Maybe it has a really low sample rate or something, not to sure, but eitherway it completely beats the hell out of the attack portion.

So there i was playing away, having a reet proper time too.... then i caught a glimps of the price tag Shocked . Suffice to say I wont be purchasing that pedal any time soo! As usual Im going to attempt to substitute this classic hardware with some kind of plug in. Problem is i have no idea what would be suitable for the job. I need something that can create those lovely smooth ambiences and drones like the EH16 can, but all the plugs i have are to clean.

Any thoughts? Im sure there must be some way to reproduce this effect in the computer. Maybe by combining a delay looper with a decimator.. Im not sure. If not, are there any other pedals which do a similar job but not require the re-mortgaging of the house to afford them?

"Elottronix XL" (look in the Effects links) is the typical answer. Don't know if it can give you that sound you want or not: won't cost you anything to try it out, though! Smile

My "Loopitch" plug (in the Instruments links, or in my signature) is also a long-delay looper. I do the backwards and half-speed tricks, like the EH box. Fun thing about the half-speed is that I do the lazy man's interpolation on it, so it *does* end up having that lo-fi grunginess when you slow it down.

That said, I haven't done an update in ages. Sad I have a lot of changes in my personal-use version, but haven't yet packaged it back up for download. Rolling Eyes

2nd voice for retro delay.

Just don't forget to hit it's panic button, or mute it when it's not in use. It's almost too honest of an emu for it's own good, heh..

I used it in a track this week & got up to hit the can & I'm in there taking a dump & I hear all this high pitched wheewheewheewhee getting louder & louder..I had to run back in the studio room to turn it off before it broke all the glass in sight Very Happy
