Is there any other compressor than the db audioware that allows to side-chain two compressors ?

Erik.

Well, I'd point you to this one but I have a sneaking suspicion they've gone out of business... Sad

Thanks pough for the link!
But it doesn't do real side chaining on several tracks... it only side chains its noise gate and its compressor Sad

I've been hearing a little about side chaining these days.
What is it, and why is it a desireable feature?

As I understand it, side-chaining allows the amplitude of one channel to modulate the amount of compression applied to a second channel, creating space in the mix for the first channel to be heard more clearly.

Supposedly db-Audioware's Dynamics plug-in can do a pretty good job of this, although I have not tried it. Check it out at http://www.db-audioware.com/dbd.htm .

The Artrack Compressor:Gate has a side chaining section

"The arTrack Compressor:Gate simulates a dynamic processor with compressor, gate and side-chain section with shelve filters. It works like a real analog compressor with eq plugged into side-chain. Chain filter section provides LP and HP filtering over the input signal, that controls the compressor. This type of compression is useful not only for general dynamic processing, but for reduction of sibilants. It allows compressor to work as de-esser."

That's interesting, never seen it before.

But I'm not going to bother with the demo.

Quote:
Demo limitations:
- gate section is disabled
- chain listening is disabled
- compressor ratio is limited to 1:10
- compressor release is limited to 300ms

What's the point of demoing a compressor whose primary selling feature is the side-chaining/gate when that feature is disabled?

Am I misreading this?

Hell, I broke down and tried it. I'm a compulsive demo-er, I suppose.

I didn't misread. What a shame.

Why couldn't they just put a time limit on the demo or a noise burst rather than feature limitations??

Bah.. bad business pratice that is. Rolling Eyes

Why isn't there a compressor which allows you to instead of using for example a kickdrum to trigger the compression amount of a hihat, but uses an EQ instead of the kickdrum to draw your own frequencies which will affect the compression on the hihat?

The Native Bundle by TC Works contains a compressor with side-chaining. I use it all the time. And the compressor is actually one of the best native compressors I've heard.

If I get what you mean correctly, I think GCO-1 does that. It has 3-band EQ filter for detection triggering.

I looked at GCO-1 but it doesn't allow to use another track for detection :-\

Oh I see what you mean, now. Ignore me then.
