AuthorTopic: Any compressor with a mix (dry/wet) parameter out there?

Very ofthen when mixing a snare (or a tom, or certain other sources) a common technique is to splitt the snare signal, compress one of the signals and mix it with the uncompressed snare.

This requires an aditional AUX and Submix track, thus taking up valueble screen space.

That's why i'm wondering if there are any compressors out there with a mix-parameter (dry/wet)?

It would make certain tasks much more simple and clean.

Btw, Aleksey...perhaps this could be a cool feature for your Crunchessor?

Indeed that's a classic technique. I have a compressor coming out soon which has dry/wet for just this purpose. "Compadre Beatpuncher" (VST/PC).

It's a compressor designed specifically for beats, drumloops and other percussive material.

You can get some more info here:

Or copy the track to a new track, put a compressor on it with no lookahead or anything else that would delay it (assuming lookahead would even cause some extra latency in your app) and mix the 2 of those tracks together.

Cool Edit/Adobe Audition has an FX rack that allows parallel mix as does the VST effects rack called Chainer.

Voxengo Polysquasher has a dry/wet as does Soniformer2 off the top of my head.

You're right - it does make for a great sound sometimes !

from another angle, camelphat will allow you to select the frequency range you want to compress (via a bpf) and then mix it with the original.

in general, camelphat is well worth a go of the demo, anyway Smile

blackcom, thanks for suggesting such feature for Crunchessor, but I think I would not implement it as it is a 'bonus' feature in my opinion, non necessary in many cases.

I think SuperCamelPhat is over-rated. Admittedly I used in on the drums for my last track, but I find it just crunches the hell out of everything.

Just use a single aux send with the compressor on it.

No need for an extra bus unless your host is really weird.

That's what I like about it Smile
Obviously, the compressor in Supercamelphat is not a surgeon's tool. After all, it only has one knob. I still find myself putting supercamelphat on every drum track and every bassline, though. Love it to bits Love Embarassed

thx for info, i'm really lookin forward to try this compressor with drums.

@cypher one: i think the same. it makes kicks bigger, but not in a nice punchy way, more like a big fat ugly unpunchy something, that i don't like.

@blackcom: try the whole mixpack, not only mixpressor.
