Hi all,
When trying out the Guitar Rig demo I found the psychedelay effect extremely attractive - the delayed sound is played in reverse to the original. Is it possible to reproduce that effect with a free alternative? Thx tom

You can try reversing the track you've recorded, apply a delay, and then reversing the track to play normal. That way the track will play normally but the delay will be reversed. Hope it helps.

A KVR'er suggested to me awhile back about Cat Delay, an amazing little free delay unit that does reversals as well. Sorry, don't have the address on me - but I believe I tracked it down in the listings here.
Cat Delay. | ||

Reasons RV7000 Reverb has a reverse on it and it sounds sweet. I wish I could find a VST as well. Will have to try to track this "Cat" down EDIT: How bout this? e-phonic retro delay I'm a gonna check it out when I get home.

Not bad, big fan of E-Phonic myself. But I prefer Cat Delay moreso still. I think it's more digitally brighter, and E-phonic as aiming for the retro 'tape sim' analog sound.
To each their own. | ||

Hey merci-vous-beaucoup!
Cat delay: yep, it really does it, is able to give back just one reverse answer Retro delay: sounds much warmer IMO; a pity that adjustment of feedback down to one answer is not possible (or is it?) Yaledelay: could not find it (site has gone under constr., though I would have sworn I'd have it somewhere down in my basement folders.) - Anyone got it? But for the price Cat is mighty cool! tom

Alright I found it! Good as an effect in it's own right but does not give me the feeling of having a reverse second (guitar) player. Cat really leads me to the Castles in the sand... thx again tom

Thanks to Villy! I'm really not up on the Retro-Delay, tried it in it's early beta stages - and it was good at that warm analog sound as you say. But I have sooo many 'tape emulators' and 'digital emulators' both in software AND hardware, I felt I didn't need ANOTHER delay clogging up my folder.

Yes, it is possible. Just enable the '1 pass' button under the feedback knob and turn the feedback all the way to the left (off). PJ

Indeed. Get some weird stuff off that... I'm still having problems with RD, though, but cannot yet really name them. I'll go with both Cat and RD - they seem to do things differently. Cat is more like playing a duet - just can't describe why. RetroDelay is beautiful, PJ! [Edit]starting from the default patch I have to click on '1pass' twice to reactivate it before it will really work this way. Bug?[/Edit] tom

I keep meaning to dig out all my old issues of Computer Music to look for this. They had a free plugin on the disc once that did this. I think the first delay is reversed, the second isn't. And it goes on from there.
Anyone remeber this or will my evening be spent going through my archives?

What kind of probs? I was working on a update fixing some issues... but then i started with Drumatic 3 I'll try to release a new version when i have some time. Cheers, PJ

The only _bug_ I found is the one with the 1pass button not working immediately. Yesterday I had played around with long delay times - around 6 seconds, so it was very difficult to get harmonically good sounding results - obviously more my problem than the product's. Thinking of that, don't know if it would make sense to add a parameter of the length that is being recorded - obviously, thinking from a tape delay, it would be the delay time. But what if the record period was shorter? -> a nice thing is to let the note play until the reverse echo starts (=> original and echo result in one coherent sound). But then I'll usually get a second echo recorded at the start of the echo until me damping the note I played. If the recording time was somewhat shorter than the delay time, I might be able to avoid that Don't know if this is understandable!? tom

I use Reversinator + whatever delay I want.
| Steven West | Posted: 7th October 2004 18:59 | |
Reversinator. That's NDC Plugs isn't it Kodama? I forgot about that one - thanks for reminding me.

I usually clone a track and reverse one of them in Nuendo then add delay. By doing this you can have reversed audio that leads into the word (with a bit of editing) actually when I think of it, you can do sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo ooooooo fucken much with nuendo (lots Guitar rig has the best sounding eventide-ish delay that does reverse and pitch shifting... They really should release that as an independant effect... it's soooo cool

Fuzzpilz Unwieldly Delay 3.0 can do what u wish ... but its a buzzmachine

I just came to the Effects forum to mention my new plugs, when I noticed your post. It just so happens that I wrote a simple reverse delay effect a while back. It is devoid of bells or whistles, but as it's free you may as well give it a go. I've just stuck it up at http://www.freewebs.com/gvst/.
| gy | Posted: 8th October 2004 06:49 | |
And now I've fixed the link.
| virtual virtuoso | Posted: 9th October 2004 14:53 | |
Either way I can't get it to work in XT standalone. It just lets the sound pass unaltered.
| gy | Posted: 10th October 2004 02:04 | |
I don't have XT, so I can't check, but I'm fairly sure it should work now.

To be honest, having worked with RD for a while now I think that really is the bomb. Anyway: thx to all of you developers tom |
