I'm looking for some excellent combfilter VSTs, got any suggestions? I really like gatecomb and stepcomb... but I'm looking for a more basic combfilter VST. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Ohmygod! was offered for free on the Computer Music magazine CDs for a while.
I think the Ohmies have made it "not free"(?) at this point... Though I couldn't tell you the exact details of their current terms of offering. Mosey on down to www.ohmforce.com to see what the current dealio is.

It might sttill be free with the CM. I got it with the CM from July, I think, and on their side it was already announced as not free.
They give it for free with the acttuall groupbuy and you can grab more then this best ever maybe the QuadFromage, with four of them in a row if neccessary.

I was fiddling with SynthEdit and made a combination comb-filter and envelope filter VST which I've since been startled to note I've found a use for in 3/4 of my tracks since then.
Anyhoo, I highly suggest messing with SynthEdit. At a minimum you'll come away with an appreciation for electronic music at a "low level" -- ad you might end up making yourself something unique and useful as well.

what do you use comb filters for? I mean, what are they best used for? I've never really used them, but I have stacked filters before?

Thanks for all the replies! As for what I like them for, I enjoy the metallic edge they give to drum loops and synth lines, if applied in a light manner. Thanks to all again.

Comb filters can be used in many ways-a flanger is an excellent example of a comb filter implemention.Used to emulate a tube or waveguide, they form the basis for any physical modeling instrument as well. ew

They can really liven up percussion sounds. My favorite example is the snare on Kraftwerk's "Music Non Stop." It's just a simple LinnDrum snare sound as heard on hundreds of other '80s pop songs. With the comb filter it becomes more unique, raspy and metallic. |
