Hi,
I was just wondering if anyone has made any new cool quantum-fx effects lately. I've checked out all the ones on the website, and d/l whyterabbits modules (haven't used them, but thanks - maybe I can incorporate them into something). I figure some of you guys must have some cool stuff that you're not sharing sluggo

I sent a whole bunch to Dave (from DBA) ages ago for him to upload onto the User Library, but it hasn't gone up yet. I sent a follow up email and didn't get a reply. I have a feeling QFX isn't going anywhere... Forever, Kim.

Hi Jeez,
Dave recently uploaded a couple of effects I sent in. I first sent them about 6 weeks ago and didn't hear back. I emailed him again about 2 weeks ago and he replyed that he had been very busy and he'd upload them as soon as he got a chance (he did it a few days after that). I bet if you emailed him again they will get posted. As well, I think Dave is currently working on a Q-fx update. If you have any feature requests or ideas, send him an email. sluggo

Quantum FX is excellent, but I think it's time for QFX2. I hope that is in the works!

Do you have a link for whyterabbits modules? Got all off the site but haven't heard of these.
Tried making a couple myself but sort of got stuck. Haven't gone back to them for a while, maybe I should. Was working on a band reject filter (hi/lo cut a la camelphat2) and a filter delay with lfo's controlling the cut and res. Probably not the easiest things to start with but they seemed to be going ok up to a point.

They were up on the Yahoo mailing list site, but there's been bugger all traffic on the list, so Im letting it die.
I'll get them up on my own website at some point; they were just examples building blocks (like comparators and dasiy-chaining switches and stuff) to try and kickstart some interest/activity but it didnt happen

Kim, what email address did you send them to? I definitely didnīt receive anything, but then again we have been experiencing problems with our spam blocking software, perhaps your messages were incorrectly "sorted" Please send them to me again using [dave at db-audioware dot com]. Oh, and can I stress that QFX definitely IS going places! We have been busy working on another project for the last few months, but are now returning to QFX development full time. An OSX version will be released shortly, and we will be adding more new features for an end of year release. If anyone has any requests, now is the time to shout Cheers, Dave www.quantum-fx.com

Ooooooooh! Howabout a vocoder? I would imagine QFX is already capable of that sort of thing, but I just never get around to making time to get deep enough into it to try. I've thought about ideas for vocoding, such as being able to patch in delays specifically to each band in a vocoder - so you can have things like delay feedback descending from top band to bottom...so you have a shimmering delaying top end, with feedback (or even delay times) descending down through the bands, with no feedback at the bottom (to retain clarity). And then maybe even something like the autopanner (but with more bands) also routed to feedback modulation, so you can get either separately panned band delays, and/or delays all having sinewave modulated feedback, but each one progressively more out of phase etc. So you'd get sinusoidal shimmering vocoding delays. Believe me...my ideas are way ahead of my QFX programming skills Maybe even something like a band split module that's already prepatched - but we can select how many bands to split it into. Harmonics is another area I'd like to get into. I know there's an enhancer in there already...but howabout somekind of specific harmonic adder. (I suppose we can use pitch shifters, but I'm not sure that would work the same way?). It would be nice to be able to isolate, say, 2nd or 3rd order harmonics and then apply any of the other FX to them - like a superduper enhancerFX - or isolate only odd harmonic and then process them, or only even harmonics etc. My apologies if this is already possible...like I said, it's a complicated process to get into - I think probably most QFX users (with a few notable exceptions)only scratch the surface.

Ok, this is weird. I looked in my email history to try to find out where I sent those emails to... and I can't find them! I also remember sending you an email asking about the lack of updates, and that's missing too! Am I going crazy? Anyway, I'll and you that bundle sometime in the next week or so. I'm really busy at the moment. As for requests... All I can think of is lower CPU usage. I don't know how hard it is, or if it's even possible. the problem is that QFX patches seem to always take more CPU than native plugins, which is why I've gone back to using native plugins for "bread and butter" effects (compression, eq, reverb, ampsim, etc). Because of the higher CPU usage, I tend to only use QFX for weird crazy stuff that doesn't have to have many instances, or can be rendered to audio. Forever, Kim.

I'm still waiting for DX automation, or to be able to use automation with the SONAR VST adapter (which shows all the parameters, but they're all called "unnamed" or something like that)

did you try using the cakewalk wrapper to wrap the vst version?
| multree | Posted: 8th November 2004 09:04 | |||||
I'd like to see png support in the quantum-fx workbench....
and honestly it would be superb if there would be support for VSTGUI like knob movies..... maybe just as an option that would make it super easy for me to come up with several cool GUIs I could add to the betabugsaudio stuff we have running already

Various Requests:
*) Cut-and-paste of groups of components in the workbench *) Editing of multiple effects in the workbench, with cut-and-paste between them - also handy for tweaking .pub/.pri subcomponents you've used without closing down the current effect, opening the subcomponent, editing it, saving it, closing it, reopening your original effect <sigh> *) Allow renaming of .pub and .pri components from within the Library (cos renaming the file breaks things!) *) MIDI-note and MIDI-CC to value generators *) Alignment tools for groups of controls in the GUI *) Removal of limit of number of visible controls *) On-the-fly switching between number of ins/outs after starting a project *) Multiple inputs and outputs! (Proper sidechains, proper vocoders, yada yada yada) *) An oscilloscope type display module! *) Spectral processing stuff! *) Granular delays and stuff! *) More context-based control, ie right-click based insertion of components, cut and paste *) Optional autoinsert of mono->stereo and stereo->mono components if number of inputs/outputs being connected by a wire dont match. *) Allow selection of multiple parameters for enabling controls in GUI all in one go. I'll add some more later....

I've done some granular delay stuff in my latest package (as well as other goodies like pitch shifting!). I'll email the pack to Dave soon. Forever, Kim.

Being a novice at all this still the only thing I would ask for would be a lower CPU hit.
The mastering toolkit goes in every one of my tracks and consistantly makes me sound better than I am at mixing. The things is that it's always pushing the CPU into the crackle/crash zone. I have to mix the track with it off, turn it on, stream to WAV, listen to WAV, make some adjustments, re-stream , listen blah blah blah, until I'm happy. Not ideal. I tend to use QFX more for the quirckier things as well and they usually have a high hit. Other than that I love it and can't belive that aren't more users (or at least more that shout about it.) Keep up the good work Dave.

Hi all,
Many thanks to Kim for contributing 28 (!) new effects, now available for download from www.quantum-fx.com. There are some very interesting and creative effects in this collection, including a cool beat re-arranger, and the first pitch shifting effect to be built with Quantum FX! My thanks also to everyone for the feedback on possible features for the next release. We'll see how many we can squeeze in.
If anyone is genuinely interested in a group buy, email or PM me. If there's sufficient interest (i.e. more than one person!) I'll try to kick off a group buy in time for Christmas. Cheers, Dave www.db-audioware.com P.S. For anyone who is wondering why I've been so silent for the last 6 months... in addition to an OS X port of QFX (almost done!) we have also been working on a new VSTi with Sven Bornemark, the man behind Groove Agent and Virtual Guitarist... check it out at www.bornemark.se.
| ttoz | Posted: 20th November 2004 06:45 | |||||
probably the most ideal candidate for a group buy if ever there was one, as this package has something to appeal to absolutely everybody. realistically, with qantum fx and reaktor, you don't NEED another fx whatsoever, (but the greedy types like me have everything) lol.

let me add my own cough to this idea for a group buy

i just checked kim's new effects out and some of them are just fantastic!
| aMUSEd | Posted: 20th November 2004 11:13 | |||||
Am I right in thinking this is only DX? I tend to avoid DX plugins to be honest - if it was a VST I would be more interested.
| Hengy | Posted: 20th November 2004 12:08 | |||||
nope it's a vst | ||||||
| ttoz | Posted: 20th November 2004 12:13 | |||||
it's a main vst shell where there is then a drop down menu to allow you to load whatever preset effect you l ike also a dx version with same functionality
| aMUSEd | Posted: 20th November 2004 13:09 | |||||
Ah - my mistake. I must try the demo then - I don't know why I thought it was DX only (maybe it was when it first came out??)
In that case a group buy would be an excellent idea
| ttoz | Posted: 20th November 2004 13:15 | |||||
nope, always vst | ||||||
