hi there!
i've spend a lot of time working with eqs, but i already don't know how it's working.
i know that there is information like http://www.recordingeq.com/Subscribe/tip/tascam.htm but i never get the result i'm looking for.

so are there any free eqs that have good presets like "make smooth vocals", "more punch on the bass", ...?[/url]

Sorry, nope... It takes skills & much practice. Each recorded track is different and requires different EQ settings. Thats why there are no useful presets.

You'll have to find the frequencies & levels that work yourself. Start with a simple parametric EQ (any builtin your host or freebee will work) Set a cut level of -6dB and twist the frequency until it sounds nice. Adjust Q and level again, etcetera.

What you describe (smooth vocals, punchy bass) also has to do with the dynamics, so it could be you need to get familiar with compressors, limiters & expanders.

Also when playing with it for some time your ears get tired and everything you do sounds all wrong. Then take a brake, walk the dog or watch TV or something.

as cOOkie said: "It takes skills & much practice. Each recorded track is different and requires different EQ settings."

and ive found only one absolutely useful preset (for every song it tried it on), the mastering preset on the Kjaerhus GEQ. (name??? its the first preset apart from "init").

With EQ as opposed to cash less is usually more. Mute your effects and focus on focus. Very Happy

There's an excellent free EQ as part of the SH1 bundle, and it has some pre-sets too, though whether or not they're usefull to you I can't say - for the reasons that COOkie mentions.

Sorry, but I can't find the link at the moment. It doesn't appear to be on the KVR database - shame on KVR... Sad

If I find it, I'll post it.
