AuthorTopic: Chord Comp survey

I find myself using the chord comp a lot and was curious how other people felt about,
)Possibly having a keyboard style display rather than the current boxes?
)Having a step record type function to enter chords rather than mouse clicks?
I realize that the chords transpose based on the root note played but I still get confused on which boxes I should be clicking. I thought a keyboard style display like the left edge of the Midi Part would help. And possibly a one shot step record feature to speed up note entry.
Or most likely I'm just confused and denial is just one step in the process?

Thanks

Personally, I like the chord comp as it is. The only thing I think I would want to see is a keyboard-type display above the note entry section - but it's a minor issue for me.

If you mean to replace the existing interface with one that is like the MIDI part - there's the Arp if you like.

That's probably overboard for such little input. How many notes do you want to add to your chord???

However...I guess it would be nice to have a recording function in which you send the comp a chord (i.e. from your external MIDI keyboard or from a MIDI comp) & those notes populate the note entry section. If you released the chord & entered a different chord, then all of the existing notes would be deleted & replaced with the new notes. Then you could end the record session so that the notes are set till you manually add or delete notes.

yes you are confused...

and denial IS just one step in the process - maybe two. Very Happy

Yah, entering chords from the keyboard (MIDI) would really speed things up (I use fixed mode alot).

As a clarification, the chord interface is fine I meant to suggest that currently there are only octive markers and a display that mirrored a midi keyboard might be nice?

I thought that a record function would be handy for the times when you have the chord progression worked out and would like to enter it quickly.

With only ten steps left,I'm making progress.

I want to be able to edit one octave and have it applyed to the other octaves. And I would like to load a single chord already in the "transpose" drop down menu to one of the "fixed" slots. So each key in the fixed mode should have a drop down menu. Ahh fuggit, I'll just use Mchord . Cool

From the Help page (http://www.xt-hq.com/help/chords/)...

Quote:
In Fixed mode, the trigger keys on the left is used to play the chord on the right. In the picture below, C1 will play the first chord and C#1 will play the second chord. All other MIDI keys will have no effect.

In Transp mode, the trigger keys is used to activate a chord (not play it), whilst the rest of the keyboard is then is used to actually play the chord. In this mode, the chord will transpose up/down according to the root key you play on the MIDI keyboard.

Don't know either actually.

On my keyboard controller I press c3, which corresponds to c5 in studio. What does this correspond to in Energy XT please?

It will be c3.FLS starts counting octaves at C0, C1, C2, C3...etc
most other hosts and most controllers start at C-2, C-1, C0, C1, C2...etc

so when I hit C3 on my controller it registers as C5 in FLS also, but the plugin still sees C3(midi note #60)

When you first add a chord comp the default setting is transpose mode but you will notice a C1 in the value box at the left. This is the trigger key setting. That key will not play in transpose mode, I usually set it out of my playing range when in transpose mode. Now when the chord component is in "fixed" mode...you will notice the grid for notes changes from relative(with root) to absolute notes. It will only trigger the chord in the grid when you hit the trigger key. You can layer more chords in the same component with the "New" button and set a different chord for each key on your controller if you want. It's easier to understand by playing with it than to read any explanation.

Hey Nicfit Smile

Ya, I did try, trust me. It was late though, maybe I was tired and not thinking straight.. I'll try again and see...
