AuthorTopic: can you edit midi data?
ebinary
Posted: 14th May 2004 16:53
I imported a midi file containing some incorrect patch changes. After an hour of poking around and reading every tutorial, I can't figure out how to view the midi data and change the patch change event.

Hopefully I am missing something Confused

Hey Eric,
iit's not real elegant but you can delete the program chng messages and then insert new ones.

Here I have imported a Type0 midi file(all 16 channels on one track)

double-click to open the part and at the left of the piano keys (where my cursor is)...click and drag right...

to open the data view window.

Now select all from the edit menu or Cntrl-A on your keyboard...

You will see all your midi events listed...the column where my cursor is, that's the channel the event is for.

These entries at the beginning of your midi file with nothing listed in the Data 1 and 2 columns are you program chng messages.

just select the event you want to delete and hit the delete key...

If you want to insert a new program chng message you can use this Program Chng plugin I threw together in SynthEdit to record a new one.

NicFit, you are officially blowing my mind.

I wonder if there is any plan to allow more thorough editing of the event data.

Hi NicFit,

Before all your helpful screenshots disappear into the deep depths of the forum, any chance you could save em and then post them on your tutorials site? Or are you hanging on them already? I learn a lot from your detailed explanations.

It would be so cool to have them all in one place. I'd be willing to help you if you lack time. I don't have any web space I can offer though Confused

I could help compile though, or something...

WARNING! long OT post...well I've been pretty busy the last week, and haven't had enough XT time lately. It's hard to get motivated to work on web pages when XT is getting all these cool features to abuse Smile

I'm limited to 300mb of bandwidth per month on my web space account and I've pushed 1.5 gig in a month just with HTML and graphics...and I've pulled all my SE plugins to make resources free for the tutorials. I've noticed the bandwidth usage for this month at 25mb average per day is estimated to be ~750mb for the month of may...so it's gone down a bit. And I've only recieved two warnings from my ISP Laughing

Spe3d has been kind enough to offer me web space but I don't think he's aware how much traffic it takes up. And it's just gonna get worse cause I have more content ready togo. I've registered www.xt-geek.com as a domain, and then made the mistake of trying to sign up for a webhosting deal through Wellahost... which apparently is a fake company(who now has my VISA info Crying or Very sad ...anyway I called my bank today and warned them....but I've had no charges to this point, so I'll have to wait and see.

Now I'll try to motivate myself to get the pages updated...or at least the ones on my computer which are done uploaded to the site...I was just holding off till I got www.xt-geek.com online, but now I have to wait and see how that bad transaction turns out. I will contact Spe3d and see if he's still willing to donate his resources even considering the high bandwidth.

Back to your question...if you have anything specific you want on the site then PM me the info...I'll add the above reply, but let me know if there are any others?...I know you said I should add the chord recording reply...but were there others?

And any recommendations for tutorials are welcome. I finished a SE tutorial but had to temporarily scrap it since Chris Kerry isn't currently releasing his modules(he was when I started it) ...But I started another one which only uses David Haupt third-party modules. I've takken all the screen shots, I just need to throw them together with some text...and get approval from DH.

I also have a bunch of screengrabs from an advanced modular sequencing tutorial I was working on, but then jorgen released some updates which made some of my planned teachings obsolete Smile

If I can workout getting a new host I'd also like to add the Wikki suggestion recently made...I'd like to see more involvement from other users who would contribute if they only had a way. In fact if anyone has a tutorial they want to do...they can email me the text and images and I'll put up a page for them.

Anyway I'll try to have a little update uploaded by tomorrow......but I still haven't finished a track in 2004. Embarassed

NiceFit - You rule! I could not find that event screen anywhere. Using XT is a bit like playing Doom - you have to click & drag on everything to see if there is a secret door.

re: bandwidth. Seems like xt-hq should host these things. But you can probably knock your resource usage down by a factor of 10-100 by simply providing a link to a zipped copy of the tutorials, rather than embedding them in posts (even though it is super cool when you do it). Those graphics get pulled every time anyone re-reads a thread.

Even if you just posted a link to the html, at least only those interested would eat your bandwidth and most people would only view it once instead of everytime they return to the thread.

I found the Events List last week, and spent ages trying to widen it. Exclamation Thanks nF

If only we could edit the values, directly (or even select several and change them all - by an absolute amount or a relative % or ... (like Muzys does in its List Editor.
