AuthorTopic: Customizable Key Commands?

Hi, is there any way to customize the key commands in EnergyXT? The thing is that I am using a laptop and the keyboard setup is not 100% similar to desktop keyboards. The most obvious difference is the lack of a numpad. The standard "Cubase setup" functions for example recording (*) is not instantly available as a "one-keypress"-command. (I can reach the numpad by using a function key on my keyboard but it's not nearly as fast or convenient). EnergyXT has a similar key layout to Cubase in this regard and I would like to be able to customize it just as i can in Cubase!

I think working with keycommands is speeding up the workflow enormously. More keycommands for functions such as quantize and snap (I've seen such suggestions in other threads) would be *great*. Everything that's accessible through menus' could also be bound to keycommands I think! At least so that the user can customize these commands themselves.

If it's not possible to do this right now, will it be in the future?

Thanks alot

*eager for the next beta with ableton live host sync* =)

Yeah, customizable key commands sounds like a great idea. Whenever Jorgen has the time that is Smile.
The problem with short keys in general is that they tend to get a bit arbitrary. For which functions do you supply short keys and for which functions do you not? It's not entirely consistent in neither Logic or Cubase, so of course it could be a rather non-trivial problem to solve.

If I'd choose there would be assignable keycommands for all imaginable and possible functions. I dont really see the problem with choosing which functions that should be included or what number of functions should be included if you make 'em all customizable. Making a function assignable does not imply it has to be assigned. Just look at Cubase and Logic keycommands - there are at least as many command unassigned as there are assigned as default.

As a user you just customize it to fit your workflow or computer keyboard (at least that's what i do). If I dont ever quantize I can unassign the key and use it to something else...

I would be happy with a keycommands.ini file for energyXT.

Yes, I would go along with that.

It's a classic case of there not being a simple scheme that will suit everyone. So, in the best traditions of IT, hand the responsibility (sorry, I meant power) to the user - make the assignment of key commands a user facility.

Then each user can set up his/her own favourite set of key commands.

Better yet, perhaps have more than one set and load the appropriate set for the task in hand?
