i have less then 5 hours on EnergyXT so please be gentle if what i am about to ask seems silly.

While working with the Sequencer Module, i was struck by how hot it would be to be able to loop individual midi clips: Lets say you have a 2 bar drum part and want to fill 32 bars of it. Instead of copy > paste it 15 more times, it would be great to be able to for instance: right mouse click the midi clip choose 'loop' and fill in the number of iterations. The advantage of this is if you later decide you will off yourself if you hear that cowbell one more time, you can change it in the original clip, and it will be gone throughout, while if you copy > pasted you'd have to delete it out of each, or delete all the copies and re-paste the new versions.

Am i just wrong thinking? Have i just not unearthed this feature that already exists?

i plan to get some sleep here sometime soon, eating might be good too.. maybe tomorrow Very Happy

Thanks!

it's already working like this,i.e. you have a original midi part in the seq comp , from which , if you copy and paste into the track , you get so called 'ghost copies' of the original part and so , if you change something it will change in every copy as well.

the copy/repeat function itself sounds like a good idea to me Wink it's no vital addition though if you consider using shortcuts (ctrl+c,ctrl+v) which accelerate the process already a lot.

You can tell ghosted copies from 'real' copies, because they have rounded edges.

It would be nice to have some quick way to make lots of copies though. I love just pressing 'D' in Cubase to duplicate the selected parts. Perhaps we could have a shortcut like that Smile

I'd like to see a Repeat function too in the Sequencer. In puerileboy's example even creating 15 ghost copies is a bit of a pain.

Currently, dragging out a MIDI clip to the right lengthens it, what would be handy is a repeat - it would be similar to ghost parts but within the MIDI Part itself. Perhaps a Repeat function on the Part Menu to create "N" sequential ghost copies of the current MIDI Part.

Or even adopt the approach taken in other hosts - where there is a distinction between the element defining the note pattern and the element defining when and how many times that pattern is played.

And the same for Audio Parts?

Just a thought or two

okay.. now that i have played with the ghost/real pastes a bit i see this is exactly the kind of thing i was looking for, even better as you can un-ghost certain clips .. perfect!

Massiva had a Ctrl-K function (Append) that added copies of the selected part. A very handy feature and quite possibly on the to-do list.
