Is there a mechanism in place for Sonar 2 XL owners to upgrade?
Posted: 9th June 2002 12:43
I believe there is, but Angus just hasn't announced/posted it just yet. Angus has stated before that 2.0XL users will need to pay a $49.00 registration fee to qualify for the upgrade. I am anxious to get the DR-008 1.1 update myself and will be more than happy to invest the registration fee toward the many benefits/enhancements that the 1.1 update will provide to existing 2.0XL users.

Spot on, Billy - we'll post the details in a few days.

A few days? Hot Damn! I'm champing at the bit for this upgrade. I can't wait. Once I used the Dr-008, I wondered how I ever did without it. It's torture to know that you've made it better, and I can't have it yet.

Yeah, I knew there was going to be an upgrade, and the price. I just wanted to know if it was possible to actually do yet.
Though Ive just bought Reverb. It, a StudioMix, and two more Speak and Spells, so I think my toy money for this month is all gone now...

Is this the version which supports the export of a Cubase ".map" file? I seem to remember reading somewhere around here that this feature was coming soon.
Posted: 11th June 2002 06:46
no.. that feature is about to be added via a new "wizard" add-on.

SONAR XL2 upgrade link is active... go get 'em!

One question... If we upgrade to the full DR-008 as a registered SonarXL user, do we also get the VST version as well? Or, is this simply a DXi/Sonar only update?
Posted: 3rd November 2002 03:38
Yep, you get the VST plugin as well.

I just upgraded to Sonar 2.2XL.
Ididn't think I'd have to be forking out more spondoolicks so quickly to get the benefits of this wonderful looking piece of software.
As a matter of fact I haven't learnt to use it at all yet and I really want to start constructing my own loops.
Is there a manual?
Does being based in the UK make things any easier?
Posted: 15th May 2003 15:17
When I click on the Samples tag of my DR008 (in Sonar 2.2.XL)
I get this message: 'This function is not implemented yet. Please check with FXpansion support for a newer version.'
The version I have is V1.01SR.
Do I have to register it.
I know there are a lot of post about this but I'd really like to get this machine up and running properly.

There's a PDF manual on the SONAR CD. There's also one in the Downloads area on the FXpansion site.
As to the Samples button... that's not how you load in samples. What you need to do is doubleclick an empty "pad" on the DR-008's interface, and you'll get a "File-Open"-style dialog box where you can select WAV files.

Thanks for that Angus. So what is that button for?
I also want to know how to use the sequencer. There seems to be one preset sequence included but I cant activate any of my own.
At the moment I've only been able to load samples and drum groups but just for sounds and using the sequencer on Sonar to make patterns.
The sounds are fantastic and so is the manipulating of them with the modules but I'd like to be able to create grooves and loops with the DR008. am I asking silly, obvious questions here? you can probably tell that I'm on a pretty steep learning curve when it comes to midi/audio recording gear.
I am an acoustic musician( guitar, oud, percussion etc) who want to create subtle grooves and atmospheres using my own recorded hits and sounds, and obviously some of the cool drum sounds available electronically.
An amazing recording to hear is by a French/Arabic group called DuOud, if you ever get a chance to hear it you'll see what I mean.
They use an Apple Power book on stage while they play acoustically.
Anyway, so how do I get the DR008 actually moving like a drum machine?
Look forward to your reply.
PS do I have the latest version?
I just bought the upgrade from Etcetera.

Which upgrade did you buy..? A DR-008 upgrade? or a SONAR upgrade?
Posted: 20th May 2003 19:25
Sorry to but in here, but on the fxpansion website it indicates a new demo version of dr008 is available...does this mean there is a new version of the registered verssion?
What actually IS the latest official version, and more importantly, is the battery i mport non beta yet?? it's been almost 2 years since that's been promised, it's getting long in the tooth (the waiting)
Posted: 21st May 2003 02:54
The latest official version is v1.11. The demo was updated a bit more recently because all our demos are timebombed to absolutely not work after a certain date; also, the demo and boxed versions have installers, whereas the full version does not.
The Battery import is not included in the official full-version distribution, but so many people are using it without any crash problems that it's not really beta anymore.
Posted: 26th May 2003 10:30
So, would it be silly to ask why there is no update patch officially available for batery kit import on the website?
Posted: 26th May 2003 10:36
If you had any idea of the amount of work involved in distributing a patch...
This is THE major downside to our (generally beneficial) policy of not using any copyprotection - we can't just post updates on the Web site for free download, and it's a lot of work to make sure everyone gets these updates as they should. ttoz, there's a form you can fill in in the FAQ section on the web site which will get you the battery importer.
Anyways, I'm closing this thread now as it's gone way off the original topic.
