I am a patient man....
..But, When is 1.1 out? I am just TOO excited!
Sorry about wasting serious forum space but I am fit to burst !! Cheers, Aaron. P.S. I hope you had a top time on holiday ![]()

You are not alone! | |

I know that Angus said in another thread that the base VSTi (without the new modules) would be available in the next few weeks. Knowing Angus, he won't release it until it's completely ready - just the way it should be.

ooh, MIDI Learn!!! Thats what I need ![]()

I hate to even ask but, did the Velo Sampler get a makeover?

| FXpansionAudio | Posted: 4th June 2002 20:25 |
sj_digriz, not yet. The only changes to the modules in the first 1.1 release are bug fixes, plus EasySampler has a different look. Serious makeovers for Ultrasampler and Velosampler (inc multiselect drag+drop support and a "live" edit window for Velosampler) are very high on the list for the next one; the DrumDeploy modules are also getting a makeover.

Is the output config any different?
| SJ_Digriz | Posted: 4th June 2002 21:05 |
Thanks for the info, I guess I'll quit holding my breath. I was starting to turn blue.
Think Velo Think Velo Think Velo
Not sure on this one either but the other option I was interested in was to have each instance have its own output config instead of having a default for all. I use 8 and 4 on my main kit and if I just want to add a bit of percussion it is a bit much to add 12 more channels to the strip. In Cubase 5.1 I could go hide the ones I wasn't useing. SX has managed to remove this feature and now the channel strip is oh so cluttered. Still lovin it though. Thanks for the good work.

If all goes to plan, the *engine release* (not the new modules, just the 1.1 engine and kits) will be out at the end of this week.
Some of the hilights:- - drag and drop now supported from Windows Explorer, Bitshift PhatMatik Pro and various other apps. - dragging multiple files from Explorer automatically maps waves across the keyboard - MIDI Learn mode - "Reason ReDrum"-alike forward and back arrows for stepping through a folder of waves or presets - preview from browser - patch randomization - full compatibility with Logic Audio 5, Cubase SX, SONAR 2. - DXi version is now sample-accurate - DXi supports multiple outputs - under SONAR, DR-008 is now auto-detected as a drum channel, and pad names are translated automatically and in real time to SONAR's drum editor. - improved look and feel to some aspects - many ergonomic enhancements - every bug reported to us has been fixed

WOW!!
I'm so excited about the new enhancements ![]()

That's a limitation of the current VST SDK. Steinberg are aware of it.
| electro | Posted: 5th June 2002 18:51 |
What about making the output configuration flexible?
| FXpansionAudio | Posted: 6th June 2002 13:15 |
It's pretty flexible already! 1.1 doesn't change that, but "even more flexibility" is on the wish list. Note that having different output configs in different DR-008 instances is not possible with the current VST and DXi SDKs.

quote:What are the vst 2.1 sdk output restrictions for VSTInstruments? I never understood why a vstI like Halion would be limited to such a low amount of channels. What are the rules? As to dynamic output config I agree that the vst sdk needs to be updated in the future: http://linux1723.dn.net/forum/Forum2/HTML/026397.html
| FXpansionAudio | Posted: 6th June 2002 22:03 |
vst sdk 2.1 restriction is simply that all instances of the instrument must have the same number of outputs, and there are problems (at least in Cubase 5.x, dunno about SX) if you change an instrument's output config (system-wide) and then reload a song using that instrument with a previous output configuration. There's no limit to the number or type of outputs; then again, as you can load multiple instances of any VSTi, it's not to my mind a big deal that a VSTi have a fairly limited number of outs... the 12 (max) provided by DR-008 should be enough.

Angus (probably a stupid question that's already been answered somewhere, but...):
will this update also be available for the version that shipped with SONAR2XL...?
| FXpansionAudio | Posted: 8th June 2002 21:35 |
No. SONAR 2 XL users need to upgrade to full registration with us, which costs $49; all 1.x upgrades will be free to you after that. Details soon.

quote:Seeing that Dr008 is a 96 pad drum machine, 12 outputs being enough may be true for those who choose to use DR008 in a limited way. Even "Drumkit from Hell" (which is a 40+ piece kit) can't have each drum mapped to a separate output. Since the the max # of outputs is not limited by the vst sdk, why not increase? It is one of those things that can't hurt anyone, even if it only helps a few. I need to have much more ordinary outputs. 64 is a good number (if there even has to be a max). To be able to define the # and output type exactly and configure them to taste on the mixer (ala Speedsoft Virtual Sampler) is even better. This is one area where Dr008 should further distinguish itself from Battery LM4MKII and RMFIII. [ 19 June 2002, 04:07: Message edited by: electro ]

Fair enough - I've added it to the wishlist.

The 1.11 is really a great update and I am very pleased with it !!! The improvements are very usefull and I am glad all the bugs have been fixed. Your products are really rock solid and I am very confident to use them in all my projects !
The way you use all the DXi2 features is really very cool. I am wondering if you did change the velocity response to be logarithmic in Easysampler ? And about Velosampler, I would enjoy an update, it is really a little painful to configure in a linear way. I would like something as in Kontakt that allows you to see the velocity level and what sample it does trigger when you press a key. |
