Hello everyone,
I've recently been looking for a software based drum machine to purchase as an add-on to Sonar. I've been using Sonar for awhile but have never really dove into dxi. However, I've found people saying alot of good things about the dr-008, so I decided to give it a test download. I have the demo version 1.12. Anyways, I am 95% there on being able to use it, but I can't seem to figure out some seemingly basic issues. After using the setup program, I see the dr-008 as a dxi in Sonar...so that's good. Specifically this is how I access it: -Open a new audio track - fx > dxi instruments > Dr-008 After clicking on it the Software console successfully loads. I then click on: -Load > Load Settings > (Acoustic) And the acoustic sounds pop up on the Dr-008. When I press the pads, the appropriate drum sound plays through my speakers...and I can see the volume levels flash in Sonar...yeah! Okay so that's where I'm at, but after many fiddlings, I don't know where to go from here. Basically, what I would love to do, is to open up some pre-defined groves be able to organize them to play back as I play alone...hmm...doesn't sound that hard. If anyone can explain basically what's going with the relationship between Sonar and Dr-008, I would appreciate it. Also, what role do .map files play in the Dr-008? What are they? How do I load them? Do I load them into Sonar or DR-008? As you can see, I'm a bit lost. Thanks a bunch, Bryan

Import the MIDI file with the grooves you want, and assign DR-008 to be the output of the MIDI track. If you're in overdub mode, you can record your real time fills on top.
The .map files are for Sonar 2 and its drum map-a really handy tool. They won't work in Sonar 1,and they're automatically used in Sonar 2.Sorry... ew

Thanks alot - it was the output of the MIDI track that I did not have set to the synth. It was still set to my default midi device.
Thanks, Bryan |
