So I went to Syntrillium's website today to check on the status of CoolEdit Pro and it's now all officially turned over to Adobe with nothing at all mentioning CoolEdit, support, or even the product. Im guessing, for all intents and purposes, CoolEdit is dead and will be rolled into some Adobe program. Maybe that's good, but given the fact that I own cooledit and they've taken everything away, their support for legacy users is rather unappealing.
That being said, I was attempting to figure out what would be the most viable alternative going forward. The two things that come to mind are Wavelab and SoundForge. Im wonding if anyone would choose one over the other... or maybe even something different. (Im already aware of BeatCreator. Thanks.

Funny...I started another thread about the site being gone...I'm annoyed considering I got CEP right before version 2 came out...Of course they gave me the upgrade, but I was upgrading to a better product that for everyone else had a lower price tag! I'll continue using 2.1 until she's unusable...Do you really need to switch? When you said you had Cool Edit, did you mean Pro or 2k?

I have CEP 2.1. There's a crossgrade deal for Wavelab which started me thinking about what I might want to be using in the future. CEP 2.1 is completely usable for me at the moment, but the lack of support and further updates (and the adobe brand) is keeping me on my toes and thinking about jumping ship... just was curious as to what my options might be, and what products to watch.

Huh? I just went to www.syntrillium.com and everything is as it always was, with a cep page and purchasing and downloads available...what am i missing??? Secondly, if you really do want to ditch CEP and you want the best, well, as much as I'd like to sell you my soundforge6, wavelab is the bees knees, and since you own cool edit pro you qualify for this amazing offer http://www.audiomidi.com/common/cfm/product.cfm?Product_ID=949 crossggrade to wavelab4 for $199

So, no more plug-in sales for CE2K?

CoolEdit is not dead guys.
Syntrillium will continue to be support the software through Adobe. Adobe corporate is just sorting out the details. Gordon

Heh? I have the Syntrillium site open on my second screen even as we speak...looks the same as usual, including the retail section and the 05/16/03 news release about being acquired by Adobe.
But... If you're gonna switch wave editors, look hard at wavelab; I know Charlie appears to have a pretty low opinion of working musicians (or a pretty high opinion of his code), but WaveLab is a real workhorse; well worth the price of admission and the trek up the learning curve. k

Something is really wacky!!! How is it that some of you can get the old page and some of us can't? For those of you who could get the old page, is it just sitting in your cache from earlier times? Clean her out and see if you can still bring it up...

I think some of them need to clear their cache or refresh. There really isn't a Syntrillium site anymore.
Who knows? Maybe there will be Adobe Audioshop or something that will be really impressive... I'd bet that they would roll it into another one of their existing products though. Time will tell I guess.

my cache and history were clean, i have never been to syntrillium in about a year anyway...
BUT even with the syntrillium website IN my cache now(i haven't cleaned it yet since i went) I can't get back in at all now..just nothing happening..so i'd say they are just going through the phase of change..don't worry too much yet

Might not be browser cache, but DNS cache. Looks like the adobe main site, but if DNS is cached locally (default on most boxes) or your local DNS provider hasnt received the update, then you'll get the old site.

Ahh... What do you think is so great with the program? Besides the pricing I'm looking for an audio editor right now and it looks really tempting!

Ooops... finger stuttering

"I think some of them need to clear their cache or refresh"
Right...that explains it for sure. I can come and go on the Syntrillium site, navigate through all the pages, and I just downloaded the beta of their CD burning plugin AND their flt SDK I had no idea my cache had so many hidden treasures. k

For someone who debated on getting Sound Forge 6 and Wavelab 4, GET THE DEMOS AND *CAREFULLY* comb over each feature. You really need to sit down and figure out what features you *HAVE* to have, which ones are nice, and which ones arne't necessary and make your decision. It's kind of like choosing Logic or Cubase or whatever. Each have their strengths and their weaknesses, and you need to figure out which will do what better than the other FOR YOU! I've been told many times by others, if you can afford both, get both. I settled on Sound Forge as it did what I needed it to do, and felt more intuitive to use. Wavelab is a bit more difficult, but nothing that can't be overcome with time.
So sit down, figure out what you need, and make your decision. Both are excellent programs in their own right. Devon

my 2c
I tried the demo's and what kept me with soundforge is that for me I can work faster with it as far as zooming in and trimming wav files. maybe I didn't go far enough with CE but I don't remember a 'paste mix' option being available with the ability to set the volumes of the clipboard and destination files.

I went to the syntrillium site on my secretary's computer this afternoon.
I know she's never been there before. Just pulled it up now on my computer, and I can't remember ever being there. Don't know why some folks get it and others don't. http://www.syntrillium.com

I get it here at home, which makes sense. DNS (mapping of domain name to IP) can take up to 72 hrs to reach all the DNS servers world wide. My company (being an internet company) has an extremely short TTL on all DNS stuff while my home ISP (Im sure) caches some stuff locally to cut down on DNS traffic and make your browsing experience that much quicker. So give it 72 hrs... maybe they've changed it again. If not you'll know in two or three days

Weird...I went to the Syntrillium.com URL at work today and it went directly to the Adobe site.
But I just tried it here at home (yep, I cleared out the cache first) and it's going to the Syntrillium site again. WHOIS search shows the domain locked to Adobe name-servers, so Adobe definitely owns 'em: Name Server: ADOBE-DNS.ADOBE.COM Name Server: ADOBE-DNS-2.ADOBE.COM Name Server: ADOBE-DNS-3.ADOBE.COM Perhaps they had a DNS redirect set up earlier today to the adobe.com site (it appeared to be a "cloaked" URL forwarding, as "http://www.syntrillium.com" was still appearing in the address bar)....and maybe they changed their minds for some reason. Maybe they saw the uproar about it here at KVR and changed their minds temporrarily.
