| Author | Topic: Fruityloops studio or producer? | |

I would like to add to my music arsenal another host (my main host is Sonar 3) and FL seems to be really cool.
But I don't get all the differences between the studio and producer editions. I would like to use it mainly for VST/DXis but also for loops. Can I use acid loops inside FL Studio ? or do I need the producer edition ?

Diferences: http://www.e-officedirect.com/FLStudio/documents/75.html
Don't know, never used acid loops before.

I already saw this page but it sounds quite strange to me that only the producer edition would allow to use wav files.

You can't edit wav files with the wav editor, but you can use wavs.
edit: but not for audio tracks. ![]()

In what way? | ||

See, there are several versions.
The big ones are FL Studio "FruityLoops edition" and FL Studio "Producer edition" The Producer edition is the top one, which has audio recording capabilities, mixer routing, basic audio editor and you can use the eq/vol/pan cluster on each channel on the mixer. (anything else) The Fruityloops edition has everything but the above mentioned features on the producer edition. Now, if you're using Sonar 3 for audio recording, you can stick with it and use FL Studio as a VSTi for the rest but is good to be able to record inside FL anyways and the price isn't that high.

I know for a fact that you can use acid wav files....I use them all the time.
Don't quote me on this but some of the differences between the different editions are for example. One of them does not come with the wave editor and also....in my FL studio I have a built in parametric EQ on each channel. I don't think every edition has that.

I own SONAR and FLStudio but only because I am nuts. It might get you where you are going It might be fun getting there It won't cost that much to purchase or drive It doesn't pollute to bad But it only goes about three miles before it runs out of gas So if you like collecting software, go for it. If you want something that has a different work flow, do it. But then again, I would look like a monkey on a football on one of those scooters.

Scooters? Twelve tone system designed one called "Project 5"
FL STUDIO IS NOT A SCOOTER! IS A 750cc MV AGUSTA!!!
| tobyfarley | Posted: 29th January 2004 15:36 | |
Yeah, I got that one too. And I scoot around on it on a daily basis.

The mixer alone is worth the extra $50 to be honest.

I use FL Studio and Cubase SX and I class FL Studio as my best VSTi. I use it for programing acoustic drum loops and loop based content - in my studio it is invaluable.

one good reason to pick up FL Studio is the drum machine. you can check it out in the demo.
easy to use and nice synthetic and highly processed sounds (just so you're not expecting that new paradigm of 'real' acoustic drums) there were lots of good samples and kits on Image Line's subsidiary Sample Fusion, but I can't find that link on the web anywhere now. maybe it was a limited time offer. i use it for drumlines as a vsti in P-5. otherwise how much you work with audio and if you want another host to foolwith there's lots of toys competing for your extra money these days

The Sample Fusion site is here. It did appear to be dead for a while, though.

I read that and thought, "nah." An hour later I found myself working on a song where the bass was overpowering the drums, but turning it down meant reducing the effect. Hmm... What's the solution? Turning on the mixer!

studio producer is worth the 50$ I feel as well.
| TeeLangSun | Posted: 29th January 2004 20:48 | |
I would have said the same thing about Sonar.

To each his own, some people like to drive Ford Pinto's some people like Mercedes.
| pough | Posted: 29th January 2004 21:01 | |
...and now that I've looked into it, it's actually $59 for the upgrade which is more like $80 CDN...
| Mighty_Hero | Posted: 29th January 2004 21:18 | |
Man I am sorry to read that pough.

BOTH WRONG! (In my opinion). I find both of these programs to be essential. With the audio and midi editing capabilities of Sonar, and Fruity running as the drum machine and drum sequencer....the power is UNSTOPPABLE!!!!...okay, a little overzealous there. These two programs are a perfect match, and I will never go back to anything else again. I can't stress enough how easy it is to come up with a synth line or piano part in Sonar and quickly switch over to Fruity (runs as a plugin) and have a basic drum beat down in literally 30 seconds. I couldn't imagine using Fruity for my main sequencer...but that's not because it's not capable, I just feel way more comfortable with Sonar (probably because I learned on it years ago). Anyway, Fruity is not a scooter!

thanks for the link. i'll bookmark that. i find the abstract and the hip hop drum kits and fl projects very worthwhile and while Image Line may not have the best rep out there, I thought making a lot of these samples free to registered fl users a great service. it really extends fl studio i'm sure i'll be back for the synth samples when Big Tick releases the next rhino update that accepts samples and not just single wave forms.

So I went ahead and ordered the upgrade Thursday night. Turns out it takes two business days to sort orders. Bah! I am not a patient man!

Buy the producer edition so you can use your acid loops on the audio tracks. BEWARE: One you get use to using FL Studio as a complete system, you might not be using Sonar 3 too often. Trust me. 80 to 90% of my works are completed with FL Studio Producer Edition. And I only use Home Studio 2004 once in a while.

ANOTHER THING:
Unlike Reason, FL Studio is an open format on PCs. You can use all of your favorite instruments (VSTi & DXi) and effects with it.
| pough | Posted: 2nd February 2004 21:22 | |
Actually, now that FL Studio has ReWire, you can use Reason, FL Studio AND all your favourite DX/VST synths!

Hi All
To tell you the truth, I use fl instead of buying a host rack ie Forte Vstack and its way more powerful. In a live situation you just use forte solo and load FL vsti and presto. Regs Engine |
