FYI: looks like some new sounds are coming! Just saw this on the GForce M-Tron's FAQ page at: http://www.gmedia.com/gforce/m-tron/mtronfaq.html
quote:
Q. Since the M-Tron has so many free slots for sounds, are you going to offer more sounds or even an editor for our own sounds?
A. We've been scouring the land for 'new' original sounds and have about 15 new tape banks so far. We will release these in about six weeks time. (today is 17.08.01) At the moment we have no plans to release an editor.
I can certainly understand why no editor: heck, the real Mellotron didn't have one!
I wonder if these will be a free update....?

They'll be too large for most people to download, so Gmedia will have to produce new CD Roms. This costs money that a small company like Gmedia can't miss, so they'll have to charge us for these costs. And they're probably smart enough to see that they can even make some money by selling these CD Roms, because a lot of the M-Tron users are looking forward to new tapes. Free tapes? Highly unlikely. But I wouldn't mind being surprised by Gmedia though... |

Wow, I wasn't sure if G-media was ever gonna follow up on that or not, I'm glad they are. I still think the M-Tron is the best $70 I ever spent, or at least it's up there anyway (as I look around my room and see my Dan-Echo delay pedal). My question is, what does everyone think will be included in these new sound banks, as the M-tron seemed to cover all those present in the original? I'd really like to see some more choirs but that's just me. |

Well, here's the 2001 list of tapes available from Streetly Electronics (yep, you can still buy a real Mellotron and get new tapes!)...I count over 60+ different available sounds. Check it out:

Adrian Belew and Steve Hackett's guitars...? Tony Levin's electric cello...?? Man, I hope GForce is paying attention to these!!
(heh...I love the funny comments with some of these tapes, with lot's of interesting tidbits like on the MkII Violins:
quote:
"The most famous Mellotron sound ever in the history of Mellotrons. Think 'Nights In White Satin'. Think about That Sound you always dreamed of playing whilst dressed in a Wakeman Cape made from your mother's bath towels. Think monolithic. Think massive. Think huger than Huge Jock McHuge himself. Think about three middle aged women scratching their instruments in one of Harry Chamberlin's bedrooms in 1952....
....And yes, you can hear the scraping of a violinist's chair on one of the notes - you just have to find out which one."
