Just about to buy this. If any man knows of good reason why me and this software should not be bound together, speak now or forever .... Software divorces are very messy as you know, a major pain.
Or is Halion worth four times the price ? The reason I am nervous is that I tries VS a long time ago with a Terratec soundcard and it never worked properly. Tried the current demo and everything seems great, just thought I'd ask in case there are any pitfalls I haven't seen . I am mainly going to use it for drums, but possibly other samples too. Many thanks Eric

I reckon you wont have any regrets, personaly i love it and judging by Speedsofts progress version 3 will be a killer.

Just try the demo as long as you need for a decision. If you're happy with the demo, you'll be happy with the full version.

I use VSampler all the time. Not sure why I want HALion ... yet.
But ... if you want to look deeper, trawl Speedsoft's forums to get a better feel for what users have to say (ignore the nutters). Likewise, if you haven't already, trawl the VSTi section of cubase.net's forum to find out user reaction to HALion. The multitimbrality is the great thing about VSampler. With 16 channels you can do a lot. I wouldn't pin my hopes on the drum sequencer, nor on the synth section, but the mixer section is pretty useful for levels and pans. Does it better than VST in some ways (ever try to accurately pan a stereo output of a mono instrument in VST ... awkward). Be prepared to spend time learning VSampler if you want to develop your own presets. Weekends could vanish this way (-: Go for the dem and take a looksee.

thanks guys, had a look at the demo, and was surprisingly impressed.
I think I'll go for it, shame there is no Halion demo to compare.

i got both vsampler and halion. i dont think halion is any easier to use - once a sampler got a more or less complete feature set, it just becomes more difficult, thats the nature of the beast personally i think vsampler and halion are more or less the same quality as sampler, halion being a little better here, vsampler being a little better there. the difference in price is only justified by the sound library that comes with halion. but that one isnt *that* impressive IMO. maybe a question of taste. as far as stability goes, if you use vsampler as VSTI, i dont think you will be disappointed. i use it everyday and it hasnt crashed or even hiccuped in months. its come a long way since the early versions (which, admittedly, werent that great best thing about vsampler are all the little tools and timesavers, like prelistening, automapping, tuning detection and stuff. makes creating drumkits a breeze. and who knows what these guys come up with in v 3.0... bottom line, for that little money, you cant go wrong IMO. i would recommend vsampler even if it were 5 times the price (=halion)

I really like VSampler too, though I haven't tried HALion yet I'm sure I'll like that as well, but for the price I don't think you can go wrong with VSampler. You should also check out SamplerChan, just released in final form and costs $69. It's very well specified and has extra features such as the beat slicer.
Download a demo and try it out - www.samplerchan.com

Well, VSampler it is then.
By the way, I was messing around with samplerchan and ended up having to reset my computer twice. I am sure I was doing something silly. but a dialog box kept cloning itself until the computer crashed |
