AuthorTopic: a reason be a SynC Modular user

Hello,
SynC Modular is one of the best VSTi, development is cancelled but the features are amazing, the price is very low,
the bugs very very few and fixing update is still planned.
Many patches (ensemble) are still developed by power users.
I'm one of those and my one years old homepage is full
of patches free to download. You can find many kind
of synthesis: physical modelled bass is my first patch,
more than one year ago, one of the last is an emulation of Waldorf Pulse. Any comment is very appreciated.
(I'm doing this just for feedback)

Luisi & Liqih home page the SynC zone is inside

Yes it is one of the best softsynth around. I wish there would be more peeps like you that would do more awesome patches.
Shame not to many know about it and that developpement has stopped (I understand though).

I love your waldorf Pulse, I guess I should have emailed you that. have you updated it lately? It has been a month or so since I got it. I just wish that there were as many synths for sync as there are for reaktor. Maybe I will have to take a closer look
thanks

Hey, are you out of your mind ? You make cool patches and give'em for free.... You should buy Reaktor and sell'em

I have SynC and i must say it's a GREAT piece of software. I don't use it often as a VSTi, but I play it with my keyboard.

I was disappointed at first when Dr SynC canceled development, but
HEY!
I've got Reaktor FOR FREE as a refund!!!

There are many really good presets available. Just subscribe to the mailing list. Sometimes it gets very technical and difficult to understand, but very often new patches and emulations are released.

Hi,
I'm seriously considering of buying Sync Modular.
Is the VSTi version stable or does it crash often?
What about CPU usage?
TIA

Hi zerodecibel
I just brought it the other day, but haven't used
it enough to give you an answer.
Have a look at the reviews for SyncC on this site you
may find some answers there.

Downloaded it last week and gave up after half an hour.

Not for me. Too busy writing music.

Why didn't you like it Kevvvvv ?
Uncle E
Posted: 20th September 2001 18:31
Kevvvvv, SynC isn't just a format for sound development & you're not forced to build patches, the ton that are already available are excellent. Besides, you've requested over & over again to have someone build you a guitar VSTi, is it really fair to ask a programmer to put hours of work in for you when you're not even willing to give more than half an hour to a solution that already exists?

Your muso attitude is getting a bit stuffy & is altogether misguided. So many composers experiment with synths these days, Hans Zimmer is an avid Pulsar user & I don't know a single one that doesn't use Gigasampler, not to mention the effects modern composers are able to pull out of full orchestras (found through experimentation, you think that's stuff you can learn in a book?). C'mon, old man, you're not the only compositionally-trained softsynth geek on this forum!

Uncle E (and maybe Raven and others),

Thanx for the comments about me. They're quite true.

But more to the point is that I've just got my Pentagon 1, so SynC doesn't really get a look in.

Straight out of the box Pentagon sounds fantastic. I'm in love.

I love this forum too. It's got more personality than most of the places I know.

Keep it up, guys.

btw I'm gonna buy a real guitar for Xmas. I guess recording my own is the only way ... for now.

You probably talking about Mats's SteamPipe...(?)
Here is the link: http://sonikmatter.com/reviews/Features/steampipe/

or Andreas Sumerauer's String ensemble?

I love this forum too. It is one of the most interesting places to visit. I mean, where else can you insult someone and still get back a thick skinned response like that? Kevvvv, you stuffed shirt, you're a prince. hehehe

Really though Kevvvv, load up that guitar mentioned earlier in SynC Mod, i'm tellin you ... you'll love it old man!

How about a replica of a Korg MS2000 for Sync Modular. Would that interest you kevvvv?
All the routings are there although some of the features are not well implemented like the ability to play the keyboard upwards and actually sounding like you're playng downwards. Everything else is on the place. Get it from www.window.to/graphics. It is called SM'sMS.

sync modular is easily one of the 5 best vsti's in existance, it has cpu usage on par with a highly optimized fixed-architecture synth, sound quality that is literally superb, depth and possibilites infinite, and it's actually PRACTICAL to use?! imagine that!

as far as the karplus-based string synths, there's like at least 10 differant ones i think, or at least a bunch of major elaborations on the concept..
woo-hoo! morphology at it's best.

From a programmer's point of view, I can only agree that SynC Modular is one of the best VSTis in existence.

I am impressed with how low CPU usage is and how good resource sharing was implemented. Also the included modules/building blocks are carefully designed and excellently done.

From a musician's point of view, the "musical" sound output is often very very surprising and uncommon (in the best sense of the word) i.e. it can produce "unheard" and cool sounds, which is just what I like.

A big "respect" and thumbs up to Dr. Sync!

To Kevvvvv

Sorry but I didn't make any comments about you

all I wrote was " Why didn't you like it Kevvvvv ? "

and the reason I asked why you didn't like it was so
that I or someone else can help you to like it !
The only thing I can think of is maybe the ensembles
don't have enough presets for you or that you have loaded
a couple of ensembles that didn't open with the pannel
displaying , this can be misleading if you haven't used
a moduler synth like this or Reaktor before.

I think if you were a little more familier with the program
you can't fail to like it. Spend a bit more time with it

Only trying to help man

-thanx Paradiddle for your words.
-dr who: thanx to you too, I'm glad you like SM Pulse it was an hard work to make it sound like that, no update yet for SM Pulse, but if you'll find some bug please tell me.
Almost all SM patches can be reached by the Users page at http://www.mtu-net.ru/syncmodular.
-BT you got it! I started to translate (port?)
my best ones to Reaktor, for money? .
-zerodecibel , no crashes as VSTi, CPU usage lower than reaktor 3

thanx to all

dr who,
sorry for the link, it's working from here, http://digilander.iol.it/luisi/syncmain.htm
I can send you some zipped patches
directly if you tell which ones.

btw how did you download sm pulse?

OK. I haven't created anything marvellous yet, but the Sync is really well done. I tried Generator and didn't really get a feel for it. And I must have tried almost every modular under the sun besides Reaktor and the Sync seemed more like something I wanted to spend my time with.

Eventually I'll get the hang of it and then I can create some crazy sounds, because that's what it's all about.

Anyone serious about making computer music on a PC should register sync - no question!!

luisi mentioned above that most sync patches are available via the sync homepage at http://www.mtu-net.ru/syncmodular

I thought I'd mention to the few who may not know that there are loads of bits and pieces at the sync yahoo group.

...and here's a plug for my best effort - 'fraid it anly works with the most recent registered version though.

It's a biggie, but please give it a go - I promise you won't be dissappointed
many unique features - some great sounds are possible.
It's a wavetable ensemble for sync and is currently only available at the sync yahoo group files area. you'll need winrar to unrar the file. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/syncmodular/files/WAVESYNC2%20046b.rar

please send comments or suggestions to colin_brown@hotmail.com

cheers

I'm with Kevvvvvv on this. I like to make music, not synths. Sure Sync may have a million fantastic ensembles, so what!?! I have 4 awesome VSTi's and ORION's native Generators - i can do ANYTHING! i would much rather spend my time programming sounds from synths with straight-forward GUI's that work in a highly predictable fashion.

I'm not bagging modular synths, i'm just pointing out that they might not be to everyone's taste. I loaded up the demo and played with it for about an hour, at which point i totally lost interest.

As for guitars, my ASR-10 had the most jaw-droppingly amazing metal guitar instrument ever. Sadly, it relied on the ASR's ability to trigger samples on "NOTE-OFF" to give it true authenticity. It is just a shadow of it's former self in ORION's SAMPLER.
