AuthorTopic: Halion 1.1 - Out of memory problem

Hello everyone. I am having problem playing large programs (samples) in Halion 1.1.

I am running Windows Mellenium. I am loading a 800 Meg program (a large giga program converted) and I set the Preload into memory to one second and so the total memory used in Halion is around 100 Meg. I have 256 Meg of memory (I am not running any program besides cubase) but Halion complains that it ran out of memory and started Disk Swapping. I could not play the program (the sound comes on and off).

My computer has enough memory but Halion is complaining that it ran out of memory. Is there something wrong with my configuration of Windows Mellenium or do I have to do something in Cubase or in Halion to run large programs?

Any help in solving this problem will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hello solaha:

In my opinion, 256 MB are not enough memory to play a 100 MB Soundfont, mainly because Cubase itself uses a lot of memory (betwenn 75-125 MB in my PC). I recommend you to buy another 256 MB piece of RAM, it's very cheap nowadays, but take in consideration that Win 9x/ME can't use properly more than 512 MB of ram (this is a known problem, already recognized by Microsoft ...).
Win 2000/XP is a better OS to play VST samplers, because it will use fine all the memory you put into and, even with the same amount of memory, it will make a better management of that than Win9x/ME does.

Anyway, if you just want to optimize your PC for digital audio apps. I would recommend you to read the tutorials and FAQ'S at the RME website, www.rme-audio.com

Hi,
I think the point here is that Halion is designed to be able to stream audio from disk, so 256MB RAM should be more than enough.
Halion uses some RAM to preload the beginnings of long samples, so that playback is instantaneous, then loads the rest from your hard drive as required.
Sorry though Sohala, i don't know why it's not working on your system.

by the way, that's not the only bug in this version, it imports the giga files plain wrong. i tried to play the gigapiano and when i pressed the sustain pedal, it doubled the notes making it sound like going through a chorus, horrible. not at all what i expected
