Hi,

I was very suprised browsing at the Thomann (http://www.thomann.de/) website (sorry for German):

150550 STEINBERG - LM-4 Mark II
New features seems to be drag&drop drumkit creation and ADSR envelope.
Does anybody knows more about this? Is Steinberg really refreshing this outdated dinosaur? I never used it since I have DR-008...

You mean the "Coming Soon" game thread? Nah, wasn't me who caused the trouble. I just wondered what that new Steinberg teaser was all about.

That thread is more or less revived with this one.

Yeah, but can you believe they're trying to launch another drum sampler...?!

What exactly is wrong with the LM-4 in your opinion? Because the LM-4 MKII seems to be a major improvement.

Okay, the LM-4 MKII and DR-008 are not in the same league. If you already have the DR-008, then I can imagine why you're not interested in the new LM-4. But I think it's going to be a good VST drum sampler to start with. If Steinberg had released it when people started asking about features such as loading samples directly into the VSTi instead of making script files, then I guess a lot of the LM-4 users including me wouldn't have switched to other VST drum samplers. If it's not going to cost me too much, then I'm still interested in updating my LM-4, but I don't really need it anymore since I already have the excellent RMIII and Battery. The new LM-4 kits are more interesting...

Hmm.. but it doesn't look like an upgrade - more a 'new' product, and who would want to buy when you have the excellent battery and DR008 to contend with?

I think there are a lot of people who will stick to Steinberg software if they've bought Cubase VST as well. Especially those people who don't know much about VSTi's and are adviced by their local dealer who also doesn't know much about VSTi's.

So it is. For example, a workmate of mine who used Cubase so far only for audio editing and external MIDI gear, asked his 'regular' dealer 2 months ago for a the best virtual software drummachine for Cubase. And the dealer sold him LM-4, Version 1. Two months ago, when DR-008, RM III or Battery where available. What a rippoff...

Unfortunately he told me about this after he bought it...

Or look at the Halion hype. Halion is selling well because it's "in a box" and sold through "classic" distribution channels, regular music stores, where musicians used to buy their gear. Of course this dealer will never tell the musician that there are competitors like Virtual Sampler that have most of the features but costs much less - since this dealer will earn nothing then.
