HALion can load and play Rex Files (REX Format 1 only).
This having said, a VSTi version of Dr.Rex would be VERY cool, but since no one comes out with some REX thing accept Steinberg and Propellerhead, I suspect some licence issues maybe.

Both Cubase and Cubasis VST have built in REX support. Having not used Dr.Rex I don't know how it compares but the loops can be both chopped up and groove quantised.

A Dr Rex like VSTi would be great. Especially if it has got multiple outputs. Send your suggestions to Dave of Muon Software. A few weeks ago he showed interest when I suggested such a VSTi to him.

I don't like working with slices on audio tracks. Loading a ReCycle file in Dr Rex is a lot easier, because you can trigger the slices by MIDI.

propellerheads and steinberg are not exactly upfron about giving the rex format away
so any 3rd party who wants to work with that format is fuxed

an alternative is BeatCreator.com it was my idea to add an lm4 slice export function
(with midi file) this way almost all vsti drum samplers can import this format giving
you the same thing a rex player would do.. you would have to buy recycle 2 any way so
just get beatcreator for 1/2 the price of recycle and away you go
(beat creator exports rex1 as well)

Recycle exports sound fonts, so Virtual Sampler, Volkszampler, BS-1, or even just an SB Live can work fine as a REX player.

That doesn't help if you don't own Recycle but you do have access to a load of REX files!

i didn't know Halion supports playback of rex
wish halion was about half the size it is now, to avoid needing 'third-monitor' support

If Reason would open as a full-fledged VSTi (optionally w/out its sequencer), life would be much more musical.
Dr.Rex is DOPE as hell

HALion only supports REX1-formats.. Not REX2

And you can't export to REX1 in ReCycle 2.0
