Hi All !
I've a question acording the host- application for VST- instruments. On my first PC, I use Cubase VST as the host application for my VST- instruments like LM4, Halion, Model-E ... But for a better performance and a better handling, I want to use my second PC (also a machine with a good performance: P-III/800) as an midi- instrument. But if I want to use my VST- instruments on this machine, I've to use also an host- application on this machine (like Cubase). Is there a product available (not a whole sequencer- program), where I can load and run my VST- instruments. This application should be much smaller than a sequencer (like Cubase) and it should be much faster (short latancy-times). Such a programm must be triggered by an external Midi- signal (Midi-In of a soundcard), and should be an analog (or if present digital-) output over the local soundcard. Thanx for any hint. --- ADC-DAC ---

RT-FX from http://www.fxpansion.com will do that (and more), but I don't know when it's going to be released.

quote: DSound has RTPlayer too http://www.dsound1.com/products/rtp_en.htm I'm holding out for RT-FX though, as I tried DSound's interface and found it very intuitive. I still can't understand why companies try to build GUI's for stuff and make it look like Rack Mount gear (read Reason). It looks like crap, and you are not taking advantage of the Computer Screen... What's the point of putting Dials on there? They are awkward when using a mouse... Someone needs to write a guide to building Virtual Instrument GUI's...

VSampler and the new VAZ2001 can both act as VSTi hosts. I think they both have ASIO so the latency should be quite low depending on your soundcard.
I think VSampler is between $60 - $80 US And VAZ is going to retail for about $175 US. The advantage of VSampler is...well it's already a sampler which would have to help. However, I think it can only load in one VSTi at a time. Caleb

is vsampler a host, i thought it could only do VST fx and not VSTis !
I thought of a VSTi host, but it may not be so good. Thats because I think both cubase and logic take into account the delay of the vsti's and factor that into their timing. Better to get an AMD multi cpu solution with AMD XP MP processors and a tyger board, its really quite cheap compared to a year ago ! I'll try this soon, but I hope Logic 5 is gonna support this feature or i'm offing them completely and going to Sonar.

Yep bluey. VSampler is a VSTi host and it also hosts VST plug-ins.
It is also, of course, a DXi and VSTi in itself so it's pretty versatile. But I checked - only one VSTi at a time. However, you can always press a create sample button and it should put a one shot sample of your chosen VSTi into the sampler and then you can load up a different VSTi and do the same thing. Pretty cool huh? Halion - eat my shorts! Caleb |
