Hey ever wished you could import - export
a cell from one Battery kit to another so you
can mix and match kits ?

OK here is a way

1) Make sure you have an empty cell or cells
in the bottom right of Battery (f 9) for the
kit you want to import to

2) In the kit you want to export from, drag
and drop the cell that you want to export
to the bottom right of Battery (cell f 9 )
and save the kit with the same name, you
should get the message " file allready exists
do you want to replace it " click yes
( you can load this kit after the import - export process and drag and drop the cell back to its
origenal possition an re-save it if you wish)

3) Close Battery and open your Battery kits folder

4) find the files for the kits you are importing to and from and change their extensions from .kit to .doc

5) double click on the file you are exporting
from to open it as text in WordPad.
The info for each cell starts with
<SampleSlot index="**"
"**" is the number of the cell
so "0" is the cell at top left (A 1)
and "53" is the cell at bottom right (F 9)

The info for each cell ends with
</SampleSlot>

6) scroll down and find <SampleSlot index="53"
and select and copy all the info for it.

It should be something like this below

<SampleSlot index="53"
label=" Hi-Hat Open"
volume="0.372678"
pan="0.415000"
output="0"
muteGroup="4"
midiChannel="16"
rootKey="46"
status="640"
lowKey="46"
highKey="46"
vattack="20"
vhold="56"
vdecay="52"
vsustain="21"
vrelease="50"
pdecay1="50"
pdecay2="50"
pbreak="0.500000"
pamount="1.064370"
pitch="1.000000"
fxstart="0"
fxlength="4"
fxcount="127"
sstart="0"
fxstartUnit="0"
fxlengthUnit="0"
sstartUnit="0"
tuningUnit="0"
masterAmount="100"
modPresetName=""
modSrc0="1"
modDest0="1"
modAmt0="100"
modSrc1="0"
modDest1="0"
modAmt1="0"
modSrc2="0"
modDest2="0"
modAmt2="0"
modSrc3="0"
modDest3="0"
modAmt3="0"
modSrc4="0"
modDest4="0"
modAmt4="0"
modSrc5="0"
modDest5="0"
modAmt5="0"
modSrc6="0"
modDest6="0"
modAmt6="0"
modSrc7="0"
modDest7="0"
modAmt7="0"
waveshaper="4.000000"
bitreduction="0.000000">
<Sample file="Paiste802Vel_8.wav" lowVelo="112" highVelo="127" layerVolume="1.000000"/>
<Sample file="Paiste802Vel_7.wav" lowVelo="95" highVelo="111" layerVolume="1.000000"/>
<Sample file="Paiste802Vel_6.wav" lowVelo="79" highVelo="94" layerVolume="1.000000"/>
<Sample file="Paiste802Vel_5.wav" lowVelo="63" highVelo="78" layerVolume="1.000000"/>
<Sample file="Paiste802Vel_4.wav" lowVelo="48" highVelo="62" layerVolume="1.000000"/>
<Sample file="Paiste802Vel_3.wav" lowVelo="32" highVelo="47" layerVolume="1.000000"/>
<Sample file="Paiste802Vel_2.wav" lowVelo="17" highVelo="31" layerVolume="16.000000"/>
<Sample file="Paiste802Vel_1.wav" lowVelo="1" highVelo="16" layerVolume="1.000000"/>
</SampleSlot>

7) Now double click on the file you want to
import to and scroll right to the bottom
and paste what you copied from the other
file , between </SampleSlot>
and
</BatteryPatch>
and save the .doc with the same name that it already has.

8) Now change the extensions of the import
and export files back from .doc to .kit

9) Boot up Battery and load the import kit,
it may say "can not find wav file do you
want to find it manualy " clck " yes " and browse
for the folder that has the wav for that kit

if if it happens again browse for the folder
that has the wav for the export kit.

10) When all the samples have loaded drag and drop
the new cell to a new location if you wish
and then save the kit.

I know it probably sounds long winded but it
looks worse in writing than it is in practice.

I hope N.I implement a function in the future
so that cells can be imported with a mouse click
or two. What I would like is to have a pool
of cells in a folder that can be imported into kits.

Has anyone noticed that the Alkaloid.kit
and the off Topic.kit that came with Battery
are identical except for their names ?

I have gone through all my kits and set all
their cell keys so they sync to the GM drum
map in Cubase , if any kit has more than
kick drum for example I set them all to the same
key but mute them all except one then save the kit . This way I can try different kicks
just by muting un muting , and if I save a song
in Cubase it saves any changes to the mutes.

The only problem I found was that I set
Hi-Hat open and Hi-Hat Halfopen to the same key
but the Hi-Hat Halfopen would not play.

Thanks a lot!
How curious .kit files are done on a XML model !!!

Raven, either you've got incredible sources of information, or you're very smart!

Do you have other tips like that ?
Just like making a Memorymoog VSTi with the Notepad ?

Hi Raven,
it seems to me that it is a lot easier to save the two kits sounds you want to manipulate in a separate folder (that makes two folders), open one kit and then replace the cells you want to swap by auditioning the samples from the other folder and loading them?. sorry if i misunderstood what you were attempting to do.

Hi petitpapa
I could load samples from kits from where they
are at the moment without saving kits into
a seperate folder.
But then I will have to set all the parameters
for the sample and the cell to match the settings
of the parameters of the cell that I wanted
to add to the kit.
Some of the cells have 8 layers of samples
each layer having its own set of settings

now look at the cell info that I pasted below
step 6) and see how many settings there are.

with my method I can import a cell into a kit
in about 2 minutes

Pssst Omar

It would be the icing on the Battery
cake if this could be fixed so that individual cells could be saved and loaded from and into
kits
please ! please ! please !

Another thing Omar !
it would be good if the stand alone Battery
had the option of loading the last kit used
on start-up or not loading it( like Reaktor does).

As it is now it loads the last kit as default
which It is a pain waiting while Battery loads
a kit that you are not going to use.
And it would be good if when Battery stand alone
is booted it displays a screen that says
"Battery Loading samples please wait"

The second time I booted Battery after I had
installed it I double clicked on the icon
but nothing happend so thinking that I hadn't
clicked right I did it again, this time
a message displayed on the screen that said
"Sound card is in use by another application"
I didn't understand this as I had only just booted the PC and tried to load Battery ,
then it twigged that Battery had started
to load but was slow because it was loading
the samples from the last kit I used and
then when I double clicked again it
started to boot a second instance of Battery
that couldn't access the sound card because
it was in use by the first instance.
The result was that I had to reboot the PC.
I have learnt to be patient when booting
Battery stand alone but I think the addition of an
alert ! would be a help for first time users.
