I'm considering getting Reaktor for my laptop which is a bit under powered for music(Celeron 600 mhz, 128 mb) but I'd only really want to play it in stand alone mode rather than through Cubase as a VST as I want to hook it up to my keyboard to use live with a band. My thinking is that a copy of Reaktor would be cheaper than a new hardware module and potentially offer a much broader range of sounds.
So my question is; does anyone know if Reaktor puts less strain on your CPU in stand alone mode than as a VST? Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi gawky
I just did a test for you. I'm on an Athlon 700 mhz and I loaded Reaktor stand alone with soundforum synth and that gave a CPU reading of 13% then I loaded it as VSTi in cubase 5 and that gave a CPU reading of 15% so the difference is neglegable these readings are without playing reaktor. Im not sure if these readings are just what Reaktor is using or the total used by everything running obviously if Reaktor is used as a VST some CPU will be used by the host. Regards Raven

quote: Only if you don't have a soundcard with ASIO drivers... My Reaktor is just as fast (and as low Latency) as a VSTi or Standalone (I don't have a DXi host, so I can't comment on that)

Thanks a lot for that Raven. I've just been to the Native Instruments website and found out that there is a demo version of Reaktor so I'll download that from home tonight and test it out on my laptop. |
