AuthorTopic: Sinbad synth for Reaktor

Here's a synth for Reaktor. It's called a Sinbad synth because I was thinking about cheesey old Sinbad movies when I made it and wrote the patches and am using many of the sounds in a current recording project for that kind of atmosphere.

It's set up like a monophonic subtractive synth but the "oscillators" are switchable/tweakable "physical models" (noise+waveguide) ranging from string to tube to pieces of floppy metal. Although there are fairly "realistic" sounds in the synth, mostly I wanted responsive fx/pads with an organic flavor.

So it's really "modelling" a bunch of junk from Ray Harryhausen's toolshed. It's part of a series of related synths each with their own overall flavor.

Reaktor 3.0.4, peaks occaisionally at 16.3% CPU usage a PIII 1K, mostly stays in 13-14% range.

It's free but falls under the ISL, the International S Licensce, which means all patches must be named beginning with the letter S. Also, don't say I didn't warn you about extremely different volume levels when experimenting with different settings. If you have a vendetta against your current speakers/headphones/ears, feel free to ignore this warning.

I know there's some serious tweakers on this board, it would great if you guys+gals could send me some more patches and suggestions for other possibilities, thanks.

Cool, this sounds really nice. The Stoneway patch was the big surprise. Perhaps a physically modelled piano is not so far away!!!

I think it is great how Reaktor is starting to come into its own as a medium to create just about anything that people can think of. For a long time there was the usual synth stuff, but now there is all this other very cool stuff being made that takes it into a whole new league.

Thanks for this. You might want to mention this in the NI users list.

There are lots of great synths in the User's Library... Its just that its very difficult to find them due to NI's atrocious library Search facilities...

But I think you are finding much better stuff, aside from the usual synth recreations because:

1. Reaktor 3.0 is much less CPU intensive.
2. NI buying out DrSync, so lots of the developers of Instruments for SynC are now developing for Reaktor.
3. Computers are getting more powerful, alowing more complex ensembles..

Keep them Comming Reaktor Community...

anyone found something better?

Thanks, Soglio.

Hopefully physically modelled pianos are coming soon, and renewed interest in stuff like the Yamaha VL series PM synths. Yamaha recently came out with a new wind synth, maybe that's a good sign.

The way that repeated notes in a model/waveguide synth vary continously because you're exciting a "moving" thing rather than triggering the same thing over and over again is great but it's also an open invitation to all kinds of crazed behaviour. That soft monophonic piano sound turned into a drunken maniac as soon as it got polyphony.

I think FIscher described exactly what has been happening with Reaktor. Infinity is going to up the ante, too.

Yeah that's Ray Harryhausen.
The 7th Voyage of Sinbad is a classic. My wife's favorite movies when she was a little girl were the Sandokan movies, which she says are along the same lines as Sinbad.

Thanks- some more patches would be cool, too!

I checked out the Steampipe ens. recently- awesome. Killer idea, to regulate with the mod wheel, it's incredibly musical and fun to play. The reverb in that sounds like a custom job, maybe some kind of compound of units from the library could be used. There must be some person out there hell-bent on making the ultimate Reaktor reverb.
