AuthorTopic: Whats the real deal with Reaktor 3 for MAC?

does it even WORK? I really want to buy this thing, but I go over to the NI user board and it seems like theres nothing but problems! People cant run it from within Cubase and it is crashing systems left right and center. So, is there anyone out there who has it working properly on MAC? Honestly!

Great thanks for your reply. one mroe question, are you having any trouble using it as a VST plugin? Or do you only use it standalone?

Sorry, what exactly do you mean "this will be fixed in a future update"? I dont have reaktor yet so I dont know exactly what you are saying is the matter with it. Thanks for your replies though, this way I know what to expect.

In all honesty, I haven't read the Reaktor 3 manual for help on this yet, so I'm not sure if I have a problem with VST support, or it's just user error. But, when I open up the Reaktor VSTi plug in Cubase 5.0 r2, I just get a sort of plug-in splash screen for Reaktor and no way to load instruments in. It's nothing like the Reaktor 2.3 VST plug was. Could be just me, though.

With Reaktor 3 the VST-functionality changed:

You first have to start Reaktor 3 Stanbd-alone, chose the ensemble you want to use in the host, then start Cubase(Logic...) and chose Reaktor in the mixer.
Now it should work.
Donīt forget to tell Reaktor that it will be used with a VST-Host.
You can find this setting under >System > Audio-Port.

Thatīs the way it work s on a mac, shouldnīt be much different on a PC.

My little thoughts about Reaktor:

When loving Softsynths this thing must be great.
But when you want to use it as an effect, at least I am not statisfied with it so far.
Not because of poor quality, but because it seems to me that the girls at NI just forgot to offer many Reaktor-FXplugs to the people loving also effects, and not only Synths.

(Thereīs just ONE Preset-FXplugs, its called Geek FX.)

In the Reaktor-user-Group on Yahoo they told me "hey, you can create your own effects" - right, but after trying some days to do this I nearly gave up. If you really concentrate on building Reaktor-ensembles you will suceed - but I rather wanna do some music and use readymade effects than to spend my time programming.
Someday I will want to "programm" my own Reaktor-FXīs, but not now.

oh, by the way I could speak a word to Omar Torres:

Omar - why donīt let the users publish more FX-ensembles, to then offer them to the community via update or soemthing!
I am so shure that Reaktor would attract even more people, as we all love VST-PLUGINS, and not only VSTinstruments.
I for one would use my Reaktor then 5 times more I guess.

back to the issue...

Hmm sounds like there arent really any problems then that cant be worked around. I am mostly planning on using it to make drums and FX to be chopped up for battery, so I think it should work great for me

Actually putte on Windows Reaktor 3 works as it did before, launch Cubase (or whatever) select Reaktor from your VSTi list, load an ensemble and off you go.

Putte !
Users are free to publish any ensemble made
with Reaktor .I just searched for audio effect
in the N.I user libary and got 92 results.
There is a gater effect that was uploaded there
only 2 days ago

To get better idea how to make your own
have a look at some of the structures of some
of these.

Have fun

Yes Raven, youīre right.
But what I meant was the Idea that NI could give all those effects all together with Reaktor when you buy it - so it would be easier to adress "simpleminded" freaks like me, and also a good marketing-aspect.

Yes, there are plenty in the user library, downloaded them too.

N.I did give the user library on a CD with
Reaktor 2.3 but thwe library is expanding
all the time so a CD is going to go out of
date quite quick .

Have you looked in Reaktor Essentials/Ensembles/
FX - Multi ?

Sorry Putte we are getting our librarys
mixed up here.
Geek FX is in the Premium library
I was refering to the user library that
we can upload to at the N.I web site, that
came on a seperate CD when I brought Reaktor
2.3

The thing is... why effects? It's cool to create them, I s'ppose, but if you're on a Mac, you have Pluggo and a multitude of other options. I can understand creating synths and other instruments, but effects are getting taken care of by Cycling 74 and a number of other companies who offer free or low-cost plugz.

Raven:

I did try the demo but the MAC demo has no ASIO support and is generally pretty buggy. I wanted to know how the program worked for full owners. It seems like there are a number of NI product demo's that are a little off, but the products themselves are always fantastic.

Do you know you can save any effect instrument as an ensemble?
right click in the main ens window
instruments/fX- vocoder, filtering/ Vowel Morph

Connect audio in to vowel morph in. Connect vowel morph out to audio out. Save it as vowelmorph.ens

Load it up as a vst effect in your host program.

the reason why NI doesnt put out as many FX type ensembles is there is a TON of effect instruments in the essential library, but in order to use them as vst you have to save them as ensembles.
