AuthorTopic: How do I feed more than one VST at once?

Good morning brotherhood of VST freaks!

Is there a way to split the MIDI data on my keyboard so as to feed it to more than VST instrument at once?

ie. So I can play Muon Tau on the bottom two octaves and USM strings on the upper part?

This would be great for building stacks and stuff - like Piano/String/Choir at once on USM on Cubase.

Cheers, Reg.

PS: Why don't they watch the news in Afghanistan?

Because there is a Telly Ban! lol Wink

And a crisp fiine morning it is Reg.

You can trigger more than one VSTi like this. Set up your synths and make the necessary tracks in Cubase to access them. Then go to Options>Multirecord and select merge and then active. This will give you an R column in the arange window next to your C column. If you click in there on the tracks you want to play you get a record icon in each track and midi info should go to all the tracks you select.

As for splitting I'm not sure you can do this so you've got one sound on lower octaves and another on the hi end without being able to do this in your VSTi so it doesn't play all notes, pretty impossible with USM I think.

Cheers

Tim

You can't currently do splits in Cubase, afaik, but most midi keyboards with let you do a split that transmits on one midi channel below a certain note, and another above it. My Fatar SL161 certainly does.

You can add a Note Filter or Note Limit to MIDI Tracks in Cubase when you expand the Track-Inspector. There will appear Multi-Out, Rndm Min Max and Dyn. Min Max Settings. You can also use the Multi-Out to acces multiple VSTI's or VSTi-Channels.

Hope this helps,
Stephan

If you're on windows, Speedsoft Virtual Sampler lets you load in other vsti synths along with samples and map them over different key ranges and velocity ranges, each with their own panning and effects. (not to mention it's a great sampler too!)

The next version of DSound's RT Player should do this also, along with patch changes so you can cycle through all your wacky creations live (Jordan Rudess style)

Tough Luck
Send your cubase key to emagic, since I can do it in Logic with the environment no problems. I've had 4 instruments either split or layered.

Ie select new instrument from environment, midi channel all, no driver, select another two instruments, again no driver but say midi 1 and midi 4. Link the first instrument made to the two midi instruments. Link The two instruments to the VSTi audio object. Select on the parameter box the keyboard range and velocity of each midi layer.

Though it does not help you though
only loggy users. Sorry. Maybe this makes up for no vsti outputs !

If you're using Cubase, you can do this using the Multi Out feature.

This'll allow you to send a single midi track to different midi channels/output ports and you can transpose each output.

But if you have crossed voicing...assigning ranges doesn't work if the ranges intersect.

My low-tech solution when I play something two-handed and there's crossed voicing but I want to assign the voices to different synths is to copy the midi track, make it a new object and bust out the eraser. Go ahead and laugh.
