if no one talks about it, it is because they don't bring anything new into the picture. lots of better VSTIs on the market right now.

Well isn't the JX-16 basically the JX-10 without an interface? And the JX-10 does rock, and it rocks hard, so I don't think it's not the the new synths aren't good. I really want the JX-16 though, or at least another interface for the JX-10. I think it's kinda wierd that Steinberg would block an otherwise free synth from being used on other platforms, just cause they gave it an interface (I know FXpansion desinged the GUI so don't try and get technical about that statement).

I've been hoping that mda would release an update to the JX10, my favorite VSTi - what a shame it's Cubase only.

JX-16 is pretty good, the CS-40 is so so. Theyre an amazing improvement over the other synths that used to come with cubase (Neon, shudder) But if you other pro quality softsynths I doubt youll use these new ones much. One thing that ROCKS is the vocoder, but I am having some trouble getting it going.

Hey Right Angle, Paul from MDA said in an interview that he was working on a true follow up to the JX-10 and that people who've heard it said it sounded more like a real hardware unit than anything he's done up till then. Hopefully we won't have to wait much longer and it will be free (with a GUI). By the way people who don't like the JX-16 should really spend some more time with it, it's really capable of some great sounds but it takes some getting used to. Here's a hint: check out the manual on how to get a different osc sound, and if the JX-16 doesn't have a manual, go to the mda site and get the JX-10 manual. It's really a high quality softsynth, maybe the fact that you've got it for free from Steinberg is just making it seem less than great.

So, let's see what we have so far...

Steinberg has new synths that only work in their sequencers, everyone thinks this is ok...

FruityLoops has synths that only work in their sequencers, everyone thinks this is ok...

Orion has synths that only work in their sequencers, everyone thinks this is ok...

Emagic has synths that only work in their sequencers, everyone thinks they are the antichrist?

Hey Tuff, the difference is that Emagic sell these instruments as seperate products, but then also sell cut down/crippled versions that are compatible with other hosts. Steinberg, Sonic Syndicate, Fruity, etc. include these *locked* instruments for free with their products, so it's kind of reasonable for them to limit them for use only with their product.

Of course Emagic have the right to make Logic only instruments, but it is frustrating for those that want to buy them to use in another host, ES2 looks great!

Incidentally Emagic are now bundling EXS24 with Logic and Steinberg are bundling Model-E with Cubase at the moment, both for free.

Anyway, non Cubase users aren't missing too much, JX16 is very good IMHO but CS40 and LM7 aren't really gonna impress anyone to much....

I'm not sure about the new VST instruments, but you can use a lot of the new VST effects without Cubase 5.1 because most of them are either shareware FXpansion plugins or freeware MDA plugins. All they have are new graphics.
