AuthorTopic: "sorry, you need to reinstall attack"

i recently had to reformat my system and now i'm getting this error message whenever i boot logic - i haven't been able to reinstall attack whatever i've tried. i had absolutely no problem reinstalling my other plugins (battery, reaktor, pro 52, mercury).
anyone know what's up with this?
i had carefully saved all my song files and audio data to cdr so i could just reload them, but since i'd been using attack on nearly every track this is now impossible...

Probably you should consider to only use legal copies of Attack and PPG Wave...

cubic,

i wouldn't want to waste anybody's time with posts about hard disk authorization problems with cracked software.

for the record - all the plug-ins i mentioned are legal (bought) copies (reaktor, battery, attack, pro 52, mercury).

funny how the people who actually buy software are the ones who end up having problems that are often caused by the mechanisms that are created to prevent illegal users from using the same software.

anyway, i contacted waldorf support about this but they haven't been very helpful so far. their only reply being 'we don't know what causes this'.

my guess is that their un-install application doesn't take care of removing every single trace of the plug-in on your harddisk, so if you want to re-install it you run into authorization problems.

still, i'm stuck with 150 euro piece of software that i've been unable to use for the past month.

Probably you should consider to only use VSTi's by our friends from reFX, rgcAudio, SpeedSoft, Big Tick, FXpansion, mda, Tobybear, Muon, LinPlug, JXPlugins and and ... and I hate copy protection, too!

well..at the risk of encouraging
piracy(that i am against,most of the time)

why not get a pirated version of the VSTies that you have paid for it?

what difference does it make if you baught Attack and your using the Krack version ?

Okay, probably I was sounding a little bit harsh...

I thougth if you *reformat* your HD all traces would be eliminated. And why did you have to uninstall the plugin when you actually wanted to format the HD. Probably a bit more detailed explanation could be helpful.

If you want to try it again I would recommend to re-partitionate the hd and then format the new partitions. I think this way all data saved on your hd and it's bootsector should be eliminated correctly...

Hi Point_misser,

if you're on a win machine: Do you have your plugins and your windows on the same partition? If you only reformated the non-windows partition then you might run into problems with the registry entries. I so then erase the registry entries (after uninstalling) and install again. Hope that helps.

K, if you should clean up your registry of all "attack" entries .

Go to start>run and type "regedit"
then hit F3 and search for "Attack"
when you find the entries delete them!
press F3 again to find the next entry.
then it should reinstall like new.
if not just get a cracked copy and run that.

if you fuck up your registry you can restore it from DOS by typing "scanreg /restore" pick a good restore date et voila!

yeah you should really not buy big name vsti's
the small guys rule, NI's copy protection is heartless and stupid

hey thanks! i'll try it out tomorrow and let you know if it works.

i didn't do the reformatting and partition myself (a 'computer expert' friend of mine did) - but it had to be done since my system was getting increasingly unstable. overall performance is much better now than before. let's just hope i get this attack plugin to work.
by the way, i had no problem at all re-installing my NI plugins...

another thing

look in your control pannel>ad/remove programs
if Attack is listed there uninstall it (always do a custom uninstall here as that clears up th registry too).
then reinstall se if that works!

ps: have you axed the guys at waldorf ? maybe it s a known issue

i've mailed joerg at waldorf a couple of times. not much help so far. 'we don't know what could cause this' is the only answer i got until now...

BEFORE YOU DO THIS!!!! Backup Your Registry... This way, you can restore it totally... Most likely, the registry setting is in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Waldorf

Don't know, I'll check when I get home.

i've been in touch with waldorf support by phone today. they think the problem might be a damaged cd which messes up the cd copy protection system. looks like i'll have to send the cd back to germany and hope things will work out...
