I want to sell my registration to vsampler ( moving to halion ). This is a slightly dodgy subject since I suppose I could sell it to as as many people as I like.
Anyone have any thoughts on how to go about this in a correct manner ?

Well, yes, I suppose you could sell your serial number more than once.
You could equally post it on Usenet...or paint it on the side of your house - but so could any registered user. I wouldn't worry too much about this. Just do what you think is right.

Well, I think it works the same way as with sample-cd's - the license is personal and cannot be sold. If you buy a sample cd or vsti you pay for the license to use it for yourself.
I'm not preaching morals or ethics here but just telling you how it is.

Cosmoshiva
I accept what you say, the problem is vsampler doesn't perform satisfactorily on my system. I have posted the problem on the vsampler and bug reports forum and got no reply.

I disagree with cosmoshiva, you can't compare a software program with a sample CD license. Treat it the same as hardware or other software (with a dongle for example). Once you sold it 'once', you can't use it anymore. To do it perfectly right, contact the vendor of vsampler and request to tranfer the license to the new owner. I'm sure that would be the right way...

And just to broaden the topic. . .
I know there are folks out there with soft synths they bought, aren't using, and there are folks like me who would love to have B4 for example, or maybe Reaktor, and don't wanna pay full retail. There are classifieds at Harmony Central, but VSTi don't show up there much. So if anyone has a legal copy of B4 or Reaktor gathering dust, let me know. Of course I would want the sale to be legal, I'm not into craks.

yeah try posting a vsti or any software on harmony-central :]

I think that in most cases what you pay for it's not the Software, nor the phyisical support (CD; Floppy or whatever else)
Most companies give you the license to USE their software, by giving you a serial number, a dongle or other things. If you want to re-sell your software you can't. The license is personal, you paid for it and it's usually non-trasferable... I bought some used software last year and when I tried to contact the producer I was told something like this... I know it's quite an absurd thing...If you paid for something, (a car, a house, a TV, a bike, a piano, a VSTi, a "license") then you should have your right to sell it "used" to whoever you like...The only problem is that software can be copied easily and then re-sold... Anyway, check what's written in the "license agreement" that appear when you install the software or in some .txt files that Vsampler installed...it should clarify the question. bye

eric144: vsampler is shareware, right ? surely you got a chance to evaluate it before buying it ? how come you now find it is not behaving properly on your system ? I'm a bit puzzled....

I had a very loud, nasty screeching noise appearing occasionaly on my system. I tried everything to get rid of it. I phoned technical support for cubas, Rme. Everyone was convinced it was some kind of sync problem. I computer is relatively new and I have upgraded various things recently
Anyway, in the end, it turned out to be Vsampler, it is unusable like this. found from the RME forum. I obviously wouldn't have bought it of I had known. |
