AuthorTopic: Too many formats - and Kontakt

So now there's another sampler format (Kontakt). Pity the sample cd manufacturers. You know why there's so many AKAI librairies? 'Cause AKAI didn't have much competition in the 80's. That's also the reason why there's 20,000 DX7 patches.

Instead of making more _new_ software synths/samplers, why don't manufacturers simply update/add to the ones they already have? Kontakt could simply have been Battery II, no? If I was a Battery owner, I would scream for a rebate on Kontakt!

Before blaming NI for introducing a new format, think, how would you store those parameters related to granular resynthesis, those multi-stage envelopes, unique filters and processing? No way to save this information in old akai or any newer "standard". The only solution is to propose something new. Similarly, synth patches are stored in syx files, but it's not a common format, just a common suffix. Does your old DX-7 understand syx file of Waldorf Q ?

i knew it was going to be a sampler (if you check the other posts regarding the mystery about the new ni product i said it was a saompler right from the start) i had a feeling they would base something on the battery technology.

But i really do think that Kontakt will be the only sampler your ever going to need. Its going to be amazing and whats more it wont cost you thousands to have the best sampler, the same sampler that the pro's use.

i didnt poop my pants when i read about it. but then, its not often i poop my pants

but im sure i'll squirt a few drops when michael finishes nexus.

cya!
