I am using Native Instruments' B4 under Cubase VST 5.1 R1. In the editor, when I change the velocity of each note (event) by adjusting the little bars at the bottom, I don't get any effect during playback. The B4 seems to ignore the velocity in the MIDI data.
Anyone knows what's going on? How do I adjust velocity of each note when I'm playing them off B4?!?

donīt get me wrong but a velocity-sensible organ is like pitchbending a fender rhodes.....
...what Iīm trying to say is that the originals of those VSTiīs werenīt able to do such things-- and as a good emulation(and thatīs what B4 and EVP88 are) they canīt do it either! maybe now you say, well I donīt care- I want my VSTlīs to do those things īcause theyīre modern tools -but for my part Iīm glad that the B4 has no velocity(I hope this is true ) because itīs a big part for feeling authentic.

Oh wait, I see your point but I notice there's a switch on the back panel of the organ to switch on velocity! Well, perhaps this does render the organ not authetic then and it does work.

I believe there's a switch on the B4 that will make it respond to velocity.

My b4 demo has a velocity switch over on the right which enables and disables velocity sensitivity.

shame on me , but the fact that I didnīt know that is explains my post above...
a dynamic organ would feel really weird to me! however! ![]()

The secret of dynamic expression in an organ is the use of a volume pedal. Interestingly, I haven't incorporated a volume pedal into my virtual rig yet, even though I use B4 fairly often. I guess I've become too reliant on editing in Cubase, but I suspect that I haven't been as expressive as if I had recorded in real-time (or later) with a pedal. Hmmmm. |
