Big thanks man , nice synth [Wink]
a little CPU hungry playing chords but I assume thats because there are 6 osc's running.
love the vox sounds and the splash screen when you click on the "GalactiX" logo [Razz]

We are getting spoiled rotten with all these free synths. [Big Grin]
Thanks Rene too for the presets.

Thank you all , nice [Razz]

Yeah, I only had time to test it under a demo of Orion. Looks nice and good sounding. Thanks!

Not only is it free, but it does add to the sound palette with a sound of it's own (and sweet it is).

realmarco: Yes, there will be a Mac version. This is a Smart Electronix release, so of course it will happen since I'm part of the team.

But I can't say when yet, there are still some things that maybe will make it tricky...

Okay, you developers are just spoiling us! By giving us so much cool free stuff, don't you know you are going to turn us into whiny, demanding tyrants who'll throw temper-tantrums everytime someone doesn't submit to our demands?!? What do you mean, it's too late?
No, seriously, this is TOTALLY cool! I particularly like the vocal oscillators, they're a nice touch, and will get used a lot. Presets are good, too (thanks, Rene!), and right up my alley. Also, the preset envelopes are nifty, and make whipping up new patches a breeze. I remember that kind of thing from my old Ensoniqs and Yamahas. And, since I'm a Science Fiction fan, the little splash is going to endear this synth to me! The whole design is intuitive and elegant. This will be a great "atmosphere" generator. I am so freakin' happy this week!

God i love the Smarts .

I'm curious what is this smart-electron:x team?...is it like a computer prog team from some university dorm or something ?

how did you guys(and gals?) get together?

Thanx Alex and the others , this new synth got
really a beautiful and original sound,
and it's free, so double thanx!
but I really hope that CPU usage will be improved,
I run a Duron 700 and 3 GalactiX notes + Cubase take it all.
the GUI is elegant (+ coll space animation)
but a little too dark and hard to read somewhere,
for me.

I was polishing it for Pentium.
(something like 70% on PII-200 for 4 notes)

Let's see what we could do for Duron in the future.

We are just miscelaneous people from around the planet earth who have agreed to release our stuff under one umbrella name & who help each other out & support each other a lot. Mostly we do separate projects, although Tom & I collaborate with some Destroy FX things & there will probably be more collaborations between us in the future. Smart Electronix was originally just Bram & then he wanted to expand it & contacted some other folks about joining.

There are a few members that you folks don't know at all because they haven't released their stuff yet, but look forware to wonderful things soon! Also, this whole business of SE as a group of folks will be much clearer once we get our new central web page finished. As it is now, I'm not surprised that people are confused. Bram's plugs are on the main page & the other folks have side pages, & the main page doesn't explain any of this, but like I said, this will change soon...

yay, big up for one of the most original-sounding free vstis i've tried so far! however, it DOES appear to be a bit of cpu hog, i could do something like six notes with my 1.3ghz thunderbird under logic... eagerly waiting for an amd-optimized version or anything [Wink]

4 notes takes 70% of CPU in Cubase 5.1
on my Athlon 700 mhz

Thank you ALEX ! GalactiX is a great sounding synth, you MUST continue working on it !
It takes 25% of my CPU with 4 notes chords in Orion Pro on my PIII 933 Mhz (and with an Orion compressor activated), not so much for the result.
Thanks again !

Great synth, but a couple of issues...

  • No way of automating parameters
  • Knobs can still be turned while the credits are shown
  • Loud popping when switching between envelopes
  • Using preset envelopes is interesting, but it would be really nice to edit and/or add to them
  • Being able to import waveforms would be really nice too
Hmm, that's it for now... keep up the good work!

I' was wonderin devs...i was led to believe that inter-polation is good..

the description for GalaticX says "high quality oscillators with NO-interpolation....how does that work ? [Confused]

it is subject for separate article.

it generates precisely exact waveforms
without any interpolation/approximation
required.

Nice, very nice. I can get six notes on my 1.26GHz Pentium III without breaking 45% CPU in Orion Pro, which for something of this complexity isn't half bad. Glad I upgraded my system a few days ago or I'd be a hurtin' puppy!

I'm already using it in a couple of things I've been working on.. it's a wonderful pad machine!

4 notes - 40% CPU, Cubase 5.1

Celeron 600

The pads this synth makes....
It's a thing of beauty.

Hey.

Well, I can only add to what Marc has allready told you guys [Smile]

A long time ago I was very frustrated about the spreading of all freeware developers. ALl the new people who made good stuff were just spread out, everyone making plugins (good/free or not) under a different name.

People get confused.

So, I started making a small group (which has been groing) of people who are VERY different, but want benefit from all the good stuff in a group.

For example, attention is drawn to one point (smartelectronix.com) but then cut up among us. Everyone knows that smartelectronix plugins will be funkie and high quality, but you allso know that smartelectronix is a GROUP of very DIFFERENT people.
Another example is the shared use of the site, email, mailinglist, newsletter etc etc. We have an internal mailinglist where we talk about our software and ideas (52 new emails today. holy shit [Smile] ) and we have a special hidden area where we share our beta-versions of the plugins.

While the site in it's current state does nothing but confuse people, the new site should explain everything in more and better detail....

cheers

Bram - "daddy" of smartelectronix.com [Wink]

What a really cool sound synth GalactiX is. Thank you very much, Alex!

I was messing around with it last night and getting some really lovely pads, but I wasn't able to save any of my presets. I was able to save as individual instruments, but they won't load back up.

Are user presets not supported at the moment or am I doing something wrong?

I also had another idea... as a way of saying thanks to both Rene (for Triangle II) and to Alex, I thought it might be fun if everyone who has downloaded these synths and likes them would contribute one or two new presets. That would be a cool way of showing off what we've been able to do with these and to give Alex and Rene extra presets if they wanted to add them to the defaults.

Any thoughts anyone?

I think it's a SPLENDID idea!

In fact, René, if you are reading this: I think 'tis time to get rgcAudio's website updated with some user areas, where we could upload new GUI's/presets/whatnot! I'd love to see a user community spring to life around Triangle/Pentagon... [Cool]

saving fxb in G. is a bit tricky
since I didn't plan it.
try to do it like this:

1. set Programm#2 (Trance Lead)
2. tweak parameters
3. save bank as anyname.fxb
4. then load anyname.fxb again.
5. check Programm#2:
your changes should be there.

then you can go to next Programm#3
and do the same.
