AuthorTopic: Anything like a Yamaha CS-80?

Are there any VSTi's or what-not out there that sound or act or are copies of the old Yamaha CS-80?

I want to make some Vangelis - Blade Runner-like sounds.

Hi
Not yet,but oooooh yes please!
I used to have a CS80 years ago....it would be great to have that in VSTi...(the original wasn't even MIDI!)
For it to be realistic,it would need to respond to PolyPressure...(anyone else in here use it?)...and we'd have to get hold of a ribbon controller from Kurzweil
Well,we can dream,anyways!Smile)
Cheers,
Vic

I think someone made an "CS80 look alike" ensamble in Reaktor. Can't remember the name...

Don't know how close it is sound wise, but the general features seemed to be there, as far as I remember.

The structure of Atmosphere is very CS-80-like. With two independent multi-mode filter sets in tandem.

I have a really beautiful CS-80 that used to belong to the band Chicago, that has a nice Encore MIDI mod on it. Of course, I've sampled it extensively for the wavetable of Atmosphere (and Trilogy too for the CS-80 bass tones)...so these instruments are pretty good at getting some of the CS-80 magic in VSTi.

Hang on! I just remembered I've got that Reaktor ensemble, I'll have a look.

Yup, its called CEES80.ens and was made by Max Lord. According to the txt file with it it was a beta of sorts for Reaktor 2 but it loads fine into 3.05. No idea if it's still in the user library, you could try Max's site, search under Max Lord and the Reprobates.

No idea what the original sounded like any more, it's eons since I played one (spilt beer down the last one, oops)

Maybe not exactly like a CS80, but I've been doing a little of just that (Vangelis type stuff) for my Pentagon. I don't think Atmosphere is available yet (?), but the more I hear about it, the more I am drooling!!!

But maybe in the interim, if you have Pentagon, give it a go. I am very very happy with the sounds I'm getting from the Pentagon. It has a certain elusive quality and depth to it that I really like and the reason I'm suggesting it is that in my recent programming quest to create a Vangelis-like soundset for myself, that is the one that I've been gravitating to.

Maybe someone with a CS80 can put together a Pentagon waveset for us!
