Do somebody knows a vstsampler that also use ensoniq samples from the ASR-10 and EPS16+?

hello kinet.
I don´t think that there´s something like this outthere, not shure though. But: there´s a converting-app called "Translator" from http://www.chickensys.com/ being able to convert also Ensoniq´s Soundstuff to various formats. regards putte

Awave can also convert eps/asr disk images (created with the freeware program epsdisk) into soundfonts and gigs. Regardless of what program you use you will have to do some tweaking as the ensoniq's had some unique features like fractional loop points which won't convert properly. I converted my friends asr library to halion format with translator for him. It took a little time to iron out the wrinkles but it worked out well enough he sold his asr.

What was the result of the "translation" in Halion?
How did it sounds? What about the 8 layers and the famous "4-patches"? Or does it just translate the 1 instrument multi-samples?

I'm sorry I cant really help you with that. I have only limited experience using asr's and don't know the ins and out of the file format. The layers translate fine but I don't know what the 4-patches are. I'd email chickensystems. Since they started out making apps for the eps and asr I'd assume they could answer detailed questions about what can and can't be translated. It depends on what your porting it to as well.
The translations I did sounded fine. Although I've always prefered the sound of hardware samplers to software when I've A/B'd stuff, the difference isn't so great that it outweighs the convenience of software. It is a little bit odd though when you first make the switch. |
