AuthorTopic: braindead preset editing/creation in VSTi's

Is it me or, in VST, is there no way to create a "new" preset within the current bank? Similarly, is there no way to save the current preset with a different name, keeping the original?

Here's how I'm used to working on hardware synths: I find a preset I like, I tweak it, and eventually I press the "write" button to save my new preset with a new name/number. The original is never touched. But (unless I'm missing something) the VSTi model doesn't support that method of working, unless I save the individual preset to disk and then close the bank without saving it.

But that just seems really bizarre... years of VST and I never really understood this. Am I just stupid?
