This is without a doubt the #1 VSTi out there. Period.
Wish they made a smaller version of the interface - so that i can line up like 5 of them. Hats off to the guys - this is the most fun i had in like eternity.

Does anyone know if they're planning to add full AKAI import functions, Giga triggers, multiple outputs and ambisonic decoding? I mean the D Lama is great, but it could use some extra features... ![]()
| Takk | Posted: 23rd May 2002 12:10 |
But how close does it sound to Absynth? ![]()
| acidman | Posted: 23rd May 2002 12:16 |
They ripped the idea off Steinberg's Jesus Chorus-t.
Sorry. | |

It's the eyebrows that do it for me.
More VSTis should have eyebrows...animated, expressive eyebrows...

Try this:
Load Crystal (might work with others,I haven't checked) on to midi channel 1 of Cubase.Load teh Lama on channel 2.Select thechannel Crystal is on,then open up the Channel mixerand click on teh Lamas' "edit" button.Play with the x/y controller of Delay Lama... W_E_I_R_D huh? Bug...or no? Eye of the beholder I suppose.Pity both axes don't bug out like that, but maybe they do...Just have to find out what cc it is really.

Completely amazing. I can play with it for hours and hours and hours. I wish that someone would make a VSTi that worked the same way as Vocal Writer does but for Mac and PC.

Wow this thing is unique, good, very lively sound..Actually useful
Maybe there will come a traditional gui too? This design reminds me of Ohmforce gui's or something, all crazy..

Ian,it's cool alright,a free x/y controller,if we can figure out how to get both axes on teh go!
Splatta: No worries,no hard feelings.I was acting the knob a bit due to excessive trolling on SOS,which is still the best forum for learning about the more technical aspects of music production/PC gubbins for audio on teh net. [I love this place too, even though I haven't posted too much since joining] PS,betcha didn't know that the Graham Sutton taking part in that thread is Boymerang (or was, don't think he's doing D n' B anymore, going back to his roots by all accounts).

FYI, Korg Oasys PCI has done a similar thing for a long time with its included Vocal synth plugin (without the fun graphics, though!):

I´ve been to the Logic-User-Group at Yahoo the last minutes, and there the link to Delay lama was also posted. And after reading all the replies I thought I post them here, just because I don´t think it happens that often to see such comments on a fresh released freeware plug.
(the comments are excerpts, and I hope its okay to post them here.): 1.F*CK THEM! I've spent the last 4 years practicing throat singing and now it comes out in a f*cking plugin. ARRRRRRRRRRRRGH! Actually it sounds pretty good, if totally artificial. 2.Jesus, ..... i cant stop laughiiiing fantastic the best vst on planet oh my god....... it is so good to see that humor is still there on the lUG....... thank you so much for the link.... i cant stop la....... 3.Sorry, had to reply to get this re-posted as it really is the best thing I have ever seen! No-one should be without a copy!!! 4.And: finally a plugin that even made my girlfriend smile and be interested :-) 5.Bravo to the authors of this plugin! It made my day...well worth the download! 6.This is the BEST plug-in EVER! 7.And: finally a plugin that even made my girlfriend smile and be interested :-) 8.- ))))) ha ha ha...LoL

I don't know if anyone's tried Pluggo 3 yet, but there's a similar sort of instrument plugin in the new set called Vocalese.
Not nearly as entertaining as this, I'll admit.

I really like this.
It's fun, it's stupid and it's even vaguely musical. I wonder if that's what people first thought about the Theremin??

Man, I laughed my ass of when I loaded up Delay Lama - top bollocks!
Got my mate and girlfried in to show em and they were laughing an all! BTW - Oid and Ian B. The Delay Lama works as a simple XY pad because the pad bit sends out midi messages (on certain midi CCs - can't remember which). If you find that useful, I made a little XY pad VST plugin that sends out midi CCs in the same way (i.e. to cubase's midi buffer, from which they get sent to whichever is the selected midi track) - you can select which midi CCs to send with mine so it might be a bit more usefiul (but a lot more ugly) for control. you can get it from here: http://www.artistcollaboration.com/users/dunk/index.html (there's Midi step sequencer and LFO plugins as well - they work as above). The animation on the monk is spot on. The way he jiggles when he ain't doing anything... possible update to sync his jiggling to the song tempo?
regards, dunk | |

Chhers dunk,
I'll download it in a mo' then do a bit of experimenting........... ![]()

This is pretty damn cool. The vowel deal could really be useful. I'll have to look at the pluggo as well.

Cool sound and had everyone laughing their ass off. All for free! Nice work guys!

| oid | Posted: 24th May 2002 20:29 |
Dunk:
What, your plugins are standard Windows components? What u talkin' 'bout Willis?
| dunk | Posted: 25th May 2002 05:56 |
Oid - as in, the GUI is made up of standard windows GUI components - like sliders and comboboxes and tab pages and things like that.
| emerald tablet | Posted: 25th May 2002 06:03 |
why isn`t the delay lama on the front page ?
wait .... honeymoon vacation ? anyway ... it`s in my standard rack now i received emails about my little duet with delay lama. Delay and i allready made an appointment to record a new one.
| Illusionist | Posted: 25th May 2002 06:27 |
Forget me mentioning the 3d gui not working. Forgot to read the manual
Maybe it's because I run KVR in the background, but now Delay Lama shows me KVR posts in it's gui as I play it !

I know its been said already, but this is the most truly original and (bizarre, crazy brilliant) VSTi (not to mention INstrument as well) the 3d animated gui is hilarious. ah well guess ill cancel that trip to Tibet to sample those monks lol. I recorded a bit with both my MIDI controller keyb and some fooling around with the mouse, Cubase recorded it all!. MAJOR PROPS TO DA AUDIONERDZ CREW. thanks for the comic relief and moreover a VSTi that doesnt emulate another friggin analog. Im going to listen to some sutras. ciao

Here's one I made about an hour ago, just to test this thingy. Shows that it can be used in a more serious fashion too(if you think this thing is serious ):
http://www.artistcollaboration.com/users/tristezaorange/byzantine.mp3 Not very original, close to my previous song(Cemetary Moon) uses the drums in the same way, but this was supposed to be a demo...
Thanks | |

Yes, great fun.
Anyone else having problems with hanging notes? My little monk keeps singing the same note endlessly after the song finishes or when I press the stop button. Only happens during playback, not while playing live. Is this some karmic imbalance on my part? (Using Delay Lama 1.1 in Cubase 5, PC.)
